Visit children at school to inspire academic excellence

The Member of Parliament for the Sissala East Constituency in the Upper West Region, Mr Issahaku Amidu Chinnia has encouraged parents to take keen interest in the education of their wards.
He said that it was not enough to provide them (wards) with their school fees and stationery but it was also of more importance for the parents to visit their wards in school to acquaint themselves with their learning capacities, get to know their challenges and help solve them.
“The children are our future; The toil and struggle we go through each day are because we want to secure a better future for them so we must make sure that the care we give them is holistic and encompasses every aspect of their lives”, he stressed.
The MP stated this at Tumu last Friday at an event to inaugurate an office complex to facilitate interaction between himself and his constituents for consolidated development of the area.
The office complex which comprises a conference room, a radio station and other ancillary facilities would be manned by staff who would attend to people who visited the place in his absence and later forward their issues to him.
“Government will do its part with the provision of educational facilities, teachers will also do their best in the classroom but the rest of the work lies on the parents who have to ensure that the children put those resources to good use and I am speaking as a trained teacher”, he said.
Mr Chinnia said considering his priority for education, he sought to develop the educational sector of his constituency and hinted that since his assumption of office a year ago, he had outlined a number of interventions aimed at improving the lot of this key sector.
Mr Chinnia hinted that in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service in the constituency, he was starting an award scheme to reward dedicated and diligent teachers in order to encourage quality teaching and supervision of learners in the area.
The MP stated that in his quest to bridge the gap between himself and his constituents, he pledged to provide an office where residents and opinion leaders would visit to present issues and challenges of communal concern to him for redress.
“I am committed to participatory development of the constituency, and I know with this facility we can identify areas of prime concern and prescribe the right interventions for them”, he added.
Commissioning the edifice, the Regional Minister, Dr Hafiz Bin Salih called on other Members of Parliament in the region to emulate same to propel the development of the region.

Team Strongman Foundation celebrates aged women on Mother’s Day

Team Strongman Foundation, a community based support organisation, on Sunday celebrated this year’s Mother’s Day with aged women in parts of Accra through the donation of assorted food items and household essentials.
The outreach, which covered Korle Gonno, Chorkor, Agege, Accra Jamestown and Bubuashie Atico, formed part of the foundation’s efforts to support vulnerable persons and show appreciation to elderly women for their sacrifices and contributions to society.
Members of the foundation embarked on a house to house visit within the various communities where they presented hampers to aged women, many of whom were unable to participate in public celebrations due to age and health conditions.
About 100 hampers were distributed during the exercise. The items included rice, cooking oil, cloth, provisions and other household essentials meant to support the beneficiaries and put smiles on their faces during the celebration.
Founder of the foundation, Mr Stephen Nii Afotey Odai, said the initiative reflected the organisation’s commitment to giving back to society and supporting underprivileged persons in local communities.
According to him, mothers and elderly women played significant roles in nurturing families and shaping society and therefore deserved recognition, care and support, especially on occasions such as Mother’s Day.
Mr Odai said the foundation deliberately chose a community based approach to ensure that aged women who could not attend large gatherings also benefited from the celebration.
“We believe mothers and elderly women deserve to be celebrated not only with words but also through practical acts of kindness and support. This outreach is our way of reminding them that they are appreciated and valued by society,” he stated.
He added that the foundation would continue to undertake humanitarian activities aimed at improving the welfare of vulnerable groups, particularly the aged, widows and less privileged persons in society.
A member of the foundation, Ms Stephanie Birikorang, described the exercise as fulfilling and heartwarming, saying the interaction with the beneficiaries made a significant impact on both the recipients and members of the team.
She said beyond the distribution of hampers, the visits created a sense of belonging among the elderly women, many of whom expressed appreciation for being remembered during the celebration.
Some beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the foundation for the gesture and offered prayers for the continued growth and success of the organisation.
The initiative also formed part of the foundation’s contribution towards the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal Two, which seeks to end hunger, improve nutrition and promote food security for vulnerable people.
