Names of the 51 female aspirants contesting in NPP’s primaries

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced the final list of parliamentary aspirants who will contest in the party’s upcoming primaries on June 20, 2020.

The party made the names of the qualified and accepted candidates public on Monday, June 8 following approval from the National Executive Council (NEC).

The announcement by the General Secretary, John Boadu was preceded by some expression of dissatisfaction by followers of the disqualified aspirants.

Mr. Boadu also expressed the party’s dissatisfaction with some of the behaviors of some of the disgruntled parties.

He opined that the NPP will no longer tolerate such “crass behaviour” from its members.

We will make sure that our rules and regulations, particularly our disciplinary measures are instituted to instill discipline in our party,” he said.

Meanwhile, in announcing the candidates who have qualified to contest the upcoming parliamentary primaries in constituencies where the party has sitting Members of Parliament, it emerged that 51 females made the cut.

In outlining the guidelines for the conduct of the party’s 2020 parliamentary primaries, he said the polls would be conducted in the 168 Constituencies where the NPP has sitting Members of Parliaments (MPs) to elect Parliamentary Candidates for the 2020 General Elections.

Police arrest three suspects for disrupting NPP constituency elections at Obuasi

The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has arrested three suspects for disrupting the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Constituency Executive Election process at Bidieso in Obuasi.

The suspects, Haruna Iddrisu alias Dole, Osei Boateng alias Nana Osei, and Charles Opoku alias Blackman, stormed the polling station on July 12, 2026 armed with offensive weapons, scattered ballot boxes, and threatened election officials and voters.

A Police reinforcement team swiftly intervened and arrested the suspects, retrieving one axe and one cutlass during the operation.

The suspects were subsequently put before the Bekwai Circuit Court on charges of conspiracy to commit crime, namely rioting with weapons, and rioting with weapons.

They pleaded not guilty to the charges and were each granted bail in the sum of GHS50,000.00 with two justified sureties.

The case has been adjourned to August 2026, while investigations continue and efforts are underway to arrest other persons suspected to be involved in the incident.

3 dead, 15 injured in crash at Juaso on Kumasi-highway

Three people have been confirmed dead and 15 others injured following a fatal collision at Juaso Three-Lane, near NEXT Bon Gas on the Kumasi-Accra Highway on Sunday, July 13, 2026.

The accident occurred at approximately 9:39 am and involved a Shackman F3000 truck, registration GN 9673-25, loaded with clinker and driven by Mr. Stephen Amankwah, and a Dongfeng van, registration GM 4002-26, driven by Mr. Nyame Ebenezer.

In all, 18 persons were involved. Two males and one female died instantly at the scene. Fifteen others sustained various degrees of injury.

A joint rescue team from Konongo-Odumase and Juaso Fire Stations responded to the emergency call. They retrieved the three deceased and handed them over to Juaso Police.

The two drivers and the remaining 13 injured victims were rescued by members of the public before emergency crews arrived. They were rushed to Juaso Government Hospital for treatment.

The Shackman truck sustained partial damage to its cowl, while the Dongfeng van had its windscreen and engine compartment totally damaged.
