The Acting Chief of Amamole and Head of the Okortshoshishi families of James Town in Accra, Nii Ashittey Tetteh, has admonished politicians to avoid inflammatory speeches that will inflame passions during the 2024 general election.
He said some hot-headed youth in both the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) could capitalise on these statements to forment violence in the December 2024 general election.
Nii Ashittey Tetteh gave the advice last Sunday when he addressed the Okortshoshishi family members and the youth at James Town in Accra.
He also pleaded with the government to give the youth skill training to enable them employ others.
That, the Acting Chief of Amamole said would keep them from engaging in crime and other anti-social behaviours.
He called for unity among the Ga-Dangbe people because they are descendants from the same ancestors.
The Acting Paramount Chief of Glidzi and Anexo in Togo, Foli Bebe Mathias, was the guest speaker.
He said the Gas living in Togo were descendants from the same ancestors, but were separated in the 16th century, with some majority migrating to Ghana and Nigeria.
Folib Bebe Mathias said the Ga people in Togo and Ghana, would continue to cement their relationships, through yearly reciprocal visits to celebrate the Homowo festival.

Senior Lecturer at the University of Ghana’s Department of Political Science, Dr. Joshua Jebuntie Zaato says the imprisonment of the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, will have little meaning unless it leads to a broader crackdown on illegal mining.
In a post on his Facebook page on the July 21, 2026, Dr. Zaato said the judgment should mark the beginning of efforts to completely eradicate galamsey and hold all those involved accountable, regardless of their political affiliation.
He said the country must work towards restoring polluted rivers, protecting forests and ensuring that people implicated in illegal mining activities are prosecuted.
According to him, those the President has publicly acknowledged to be involved in galamsey should face prosecution.
He called for the prosecution of district chief executives (DCEs), members of Parliament (MPs) and senior political party officials who have been accused of engaging in or supporting illegal mining.
Dr. Zaato further urged the government to take decisive action to end the destruction of the country’s forests caused by galamsey.
He maintained that the imprisonment of Chairman Wontumi would only have a lasting impact if it results in a comprehensive and impartial fight against illegal mining across the country.

The Ministry of Health has dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming that Ghana has recorded 2,300 Ebola cases and 930 deaths, describing the publication as false and misleading.
In a press release issued by its Public Relations Unit, the ministry said the publication, which was attributed to SABC News, does not reflect the true situation in Ghana.
It stated that Ghana has not recorded any case of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) and urged the public to disregard the figures being circulated.
The ministry explained that the recent visit by the Minister for Health, Mr Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, to points of entry, laboratories and treatment facilities was part of the country’s routine preparedness efforts to strengthen its ability to prevent and respond to any potential public health emergency.
It stressed that the minister’s visit should not be interpreted as evidence of an Ebola outbreak in the country.
The ministry further called on Ghanaians and people in other African countries to rely only on official information from the Ministry of Health and the Ghana Health Service for updates on public health issues.
It also urged the public to avoid sharing unverified reports, saying such misinformation could create unnecessary fear and panic.
