NDC is blocking the laying of Anti-LGBTQ bill in Parliament – Dominic Nitiwul

Published

on

Former Defence Minister Dominic Nitiwul claims the National Democratic Congress caucus in Parliament is preventing the Anti-LGBTQ bill from being laid before the House.

He explained that because the previous Parliament did not complete work on the bill, the new Parliament must start the process all over again.

According to him on Adom FM, this requires the bill to be reintroduced and taken through all stages before it can be sent to the President for assent.

Mr Nitiwul argued that private members should be allowed to lay the bill, but this has not happened.

He blamed the situation on disagreements among the Majority Leader, the Speaker, and the NDC side, saying the bill has not been presented because “they are not in agreement for it to be laid.”

He expressed disappointment, noting that the NDC strongly pushed the bill in the previous Parliament, so he expected them to act quickly to reintroduce it.

He questioned whether the party truly intended to pass the bill or was only using it for political advantage.

Mr Nitiwul added that the Business Committee must schedule the bill before it can be laid, and since the Majority Leader chairs the committee, no progress can be made until that decision is taken.

He stressed that until the bill is laid, Parliament cannot take any action on it.

The convict, Dominic Ofori, also known as Fanta, was arrested on 16th February 2026 after years on the run. He pleaded guilty before the Bekwai Circuit Court to robbery contrary to Section 149 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 Act 29, and was accordingly sentenced to 25 years imprisonment with hard labour.

At about 5:30 pm the same day, four-armed men arrived at the site, fired indiscriminately, and robbed the miners of their gold concentrate. The police team on surveillance intervened, resulting in an exchange of gunfire.
