Delegation from Ghana Mission in UAE visit Black Queens camp

Officials from the Ghana mission in the United Arab Emirates have paid a morale-boosting visit to the camp of the Black Queens.
The delegation, made up of Consular Officer Percy Okudzeto, Consul and Head of Chancery Abdul-Jalil Sigli Yakubu Abdulai and Head of Transport Anas Shaibu, visited the team to assure them of the government’s support and commitment to their safety and welfare.
During the visit, the officials interacted with the team and offered words of encouragement, urging the team to remain focused on the tournament despite concerns surrounding unrest in parts of the UAE.
Consular Officer Percy Okudzeto emphasised that the Ghanaian government, through its diplomatic mission, is closely monitoring the situation and is committed to ensuring the team’s safety throughout their stay.
“We want the team to stay calm and focus on the competition. The government and the embassy are doing everything possible to ensure your safety and well-being.” he said.
Consul and Head of Chancery Abdul-Jalil Sigli Yakubu Abdulai also reiterated the mission’s readiness to provide any assistance required by the team during the tournament.
Leadership of the team expressed appreciation for the visit, describing it as timely and motivating.
With the backing of Ghana’s diplomatic officials in the UAE, the Black Queens remain determined to represent the country proudly and deliver strong performances in the Pink Ladies Cup.

GFA appoints Carlos Queiroz as Black Stars head coach for 2026 World Cup

The Ghana GFA appoints Carlos Queiroz as Black Stars head coach for 2026 World CupFootball Association has appointed Carlos Queiroz as the new head coach of Ghana’s senior national team, the Black Stars, ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
According to a statement from the GFA Communications Department, the decision was made by the Executive Council in collaboration with key stakeholders in Ghana football.
Queiroz, a highly experienced coach, has previously managed top teams including Real Madrid, Manchester United, and national teams such as Portugal and Iran.
He is expected to lead Ghana’s campaign at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted in Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
The GFA noted that Queiroz brings significant World Cup experience.
He led South Africa to qualification for the 2002 tournament, guided Portugal to the knockout stage in 2010, and managed Iran at both the 2014 and 2018 editions.
In addition, the Portuguese coach has worked with national teams including Egypt, Oman, Japan, and Qatar.
The GFA stated that Queiroz is expected to use his experience to strengthen the Black Stars as they prepare for the global tournament.
He is set to begin work immediately, with the World Cup scheduled to kick off on June 11, 2026.
Ghana will play its first group match against Panama on June 17, 2026, in Toronto, before taking on England and Croatia in the remaining group games.
Background: Carlos Queiroz is a Portuguese football coach with decades of experience at both club and international levels.
He served as an assistant coach at Manchester United under Alex Ferguson, and later took up head coaching roles with Real Madrid and several national teams.
Known for his tactical discipline and defensive organisation, Queiroz has built a reputation for guiding teams to major tournaments and competing strongly on the global stage.

Berekum Chelsea player dies in highway robbery attack near Ahyiresu, Ghana police confirms

A player of Berekum Chelsea has died following a highway robbery attack near Ahyiresu in the Ashanti Region, the Ghana Police Service has confirmed.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command, in a press release issued on April 13, 2026, indicated that the incident occurred on Sunday night along the Ahyiresu to Kwame Dwumor Sreso road in the Nyinahin District.
According to the Police, a VIP bus carrying about 30 players and officials of Berekum Chelsea was travelling from Samreboi to Berekum when it was attacked by six armed men. Three of the attackers were wielding pump action guns.
The Police explained that the driver attempted to escape the attack, but the bus, with registration number AM 9334 20, veered off the road and ended up in a nearby bush.
During the attack, one of the players, Dominic Frimpong, sustained gunshot injuries.
He was rushed to the Bibiani Government Hospital but died while receiving treatment.
The Police also confirmed that another victim, George Owusu Afriyie, was robbed of GH¢4,500 during the incident.
Officers who visited the scene retrieved two spent BB cartridges to assist ongoing investigations.
The statement noted that additional personnel and crime scene experts have been deployed to the area, while a manhunt is underway to arrest the suspects.
The Police assured the public that the perpetrators will be arrested and urged residents to remain calm as investigations continue.
