Mr Music Mensah grabs Gospel Artiste of the Year nomination

Ghana National Gospel Music Awards held annually has released  names of nominees to be voted for and Ghana’s Lawrence Mensah, known in showbiz circles as Mr Music Mensah has popped up for the  Ghana Gospel Music Artist of the Year (Diaspora Category).

Mr Music Mensah has high hopes of winning the artiste of the year (Diaspora Category). Other contenders are Jane Rita, Alex Achaempong, Millicent Yankey and Martin Fei.

Other nominees are Maame Pinamang, Herty Corgie, Joseph Matthew , Atta Patrick and Jenn Arthur.

The Ghana National Music Awards which will be held on February 20, 2021, at the Accra International Conference Centre seeks to celebrate the heritage of Gospel music and pay tribute to some artistes for their hard work.

In an interview with The Spectator Agoro,  Mr Music Mensah said he was very excited about this  nomination because it was his first time being nominated.

“It’s all due to the grace of God and hard work. We are determined to be active workers in God’s vineyard” he said.

Year after year, Mr Music Mensah hasn’t failed to rise to the occasion in dazzling gospel and inspirational music lovers home and in the Diaspora with great, rhythmic gospel songs like  ‘Great God’, ‘You are God’, Kokroko, ‘Jesus’, ‘Everybody’.

Daddy Lumba’s family opens book of condolence, candlelight vigil set for Aug 2

The family of late highlife legend Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, has opened a book of condolence at his residence to honour his memory.

The book of condolence will be available to the public from Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at his home on Kinshasha Crescent, House Number 12 (GA-332-9264), between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. daily.

In addition, a candlelight vigil will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at Independence Square in Accra. The event, organised in collaboration with the Creative Arts Agency, will begin at 6:00 p.m.

In a statement signed by the family’s lawyer, Fati Ali Yallah, they thanked the public for the overwhelming love and support shown since Daddy Lumba’s passing after a short illness.

They appealed for privacy during this period of mourning and assured that details of the final funeral arrangements will be communicated in due course.

Breaking News: Daddy Lumba is dead – Family announces

Ghanaian music legend Charles Kojo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, has died.

His family confirmed the sad news in a press release issued on Saturday, saying the 60-year-old passed away earlier in the day after a short illness.

“It is with profound sorrow and deep grief that the Fosu family announces the passing of Ghana’s beloved musical icon,” the statement read.

Daddy Lumba was one of Ghana’s most celebrated highlife musicians. With a career spanning more than three decades, his songs touched millions, telling stories of love, pain, joy, and hope.

He was known for his powerful voice, emotional lyrics, and unique style that made him a household name across the country and beyond.

“His soulful voice provided the soundtrack to our love stories, and his poignant lyrics captured the poetry of our struggles, dreams, and resilience,” the family said.

The family has asked for privacy as they mourn their loss and promised to announce funeral arrangements in the coming days.

The statement was signed by Fati Ali Yallah, a lawyer from Baba Jamal & Associates, on behalf of the Fosu family.
