Greater Accra regional minister directs project manager to remove illegal filling at Kpone-Katamanso lagoon

The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Hon. Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo, has directed a project manager responsible for the illegal filling of the Kpone-Katamanso lagoon to remove all deposited materials and restore the lagoon to its natural state within one week.

This follows reports and video evidence from residents of Kpone-Katamanso showing portions of the lagoon being filled with soil and construction materials.

On Sunday, she led a delegation of officials, including the MCEs of Kpone-Katamanso and Ningo-Prampram, the Greater Accra Regional NADMO Director, district NADMO officers, the Mayor of Accra, and the area’s Member of Parliament, to inspect the site.

The Minister upon arrival confirmed the reports and said the activity posed serious risks, including disruption of natural drainage, flooding hazards, and long-term damage to aquatic life and the environment.

The team observed that large quantities of soil and construction materials had been dumped into the lagoon, altering its natural flow and threatening the ecosystem.

The Minister instructed that the remediation process would be supervised by the two MCEs and the Regional NADMO Director to ensure compliance.

She warned that failure to follow the directive would attract strict enforcement measures, including legal and administrative sanctions.

Hon. Ocloo stressed that protecting natural ecosystems was a collective duty and reaffirmed government’s commitment to enforcing environmental laws and preserving the lagoon for both present and future generations.

Waec releases provisional 2025 BECE results

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced that it has released the provisional results for candidates who sat for the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for School Candidates.

In a statement, WAEC said the results of school candidates will be sent to their respective schools through the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Directors of Education.

It added that candidates who wish to check their results online could do so on the Council’s official website, www.waecgh.org.

According to WAEC, a total of 603,328 candidates entered for the examination. This figure comprised 297,250 males and 306,078 females from 20,395 schools across the country.

The Council further stated that the examination was written at 2,237 centres, with 2,526 candidates absent.

It also noted that the total number included 72 visually impaired candidates, 239 with hearing impairment and 161 others with special assessment needs.

On examination malpractice, WAEC explained that investigations into various irregularities had been completed.

The Council indicated that the subject results of 718 candidates had been cancelled, while the entire results of 177 candidates had also been cancelled.

In addition, subject results of 1,240 candidates were withheld, and the entire results of 93 candidates were withheld as well.

The statement further revealed that subject results of candidates from 119 schools had been cancelled, while results from 87 schools were withheld for further scrutiny.

WAEC added that the withheld results may either be released or cancelled depending on the outcome of ongoing investigations by September 6, 2025.

The Council advised candidates whose results had been cancelled or withheld to visit https://irreg.waec.org or click the withheld/cancelled button on the WAEC homepage for details.

It explained that the page would provide reasons for the cancellation or withholding of results and, in the case of withheld results, give guidance on the next steps.

WAEC cautioned the public against fraudsters who promise to upgrade results for a fee.

It stressed that the Council’s results were secured and could be verified.

In its conclusion, WAEC expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Education, the Ghana Education Service, security agencies, heads of schools, supervisors, invigilators, examiners and all stakeholders for their support in the successful conduct of the 2025 BECE.

Shatta Wale’s Lamborghini linked to FBI, US justice probe – EOCO

The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) says the Lamborghini Urus found in the possession of dancehall artiste Charles Nii Armah Mensah, popularly known as Shatta Wale, is linked to a $4 million crime being investigated by the FBI and the US Justice Department.

EOCO stated that the vehicle was identified by US authorities as part of proceeds from a fraud case involving a Ghanaian, Nana Kwabena Amuah, who is currently serving a prison sentence in the United States.

According to the statement, EOCO revealed that a US court has already ordered the forfeiture of the car to the US government as restitution.

The Office said Shatta Wale was invited to appear before investigators on August 20, 2025, after publicly claiming that he bought the vehicle for $150,000.

He was interrogated and later granted bail of GH₵10 million with two sureties.

In the statement, EOCO noted that Shatta Wale was unable to provide receipts or documents to prove ownership of the Lamborghini.

They added that he claimed to have purchased it “from the street” through someone possibly called “Zak,” whose identity he could not confirm.

EOCO explained that the only document connected to the vehicle was a customs declaration that carried the name of Nana Kwabena Amuah, the jailed Ghanaian at the centre of the US fraud case.
