Ghana-Colombia strengthens ties through diplomatic engagement
In an important diplomatic engagement, the Colombian Ambassador to Ghana H.E. Daniel Garces Carabali paid a courtesy call on the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, at his office in Accra to discuss some key areas of collaboration.
The meeting focused on pressing issues, including security, decongestion of Ghana’s prisons, prison reform programmes, training programmes, improving the welfare of prisoners and enhancing disaster management in the country.
The courtesy call underscores the growing bilateral ties between Ghana and Colombia, building on previous engagements, such as the visit of the Colombian Vice President to Ghana in 2023.
The meeting demonstrates the commitment of both nations to fostering cooperation and addressing shared challenges.

Akropong Fire Station rescues driver in Mamfe-Amamprobi accidents
A rescue team from the Akropong Fire Station swiftly responded to a road traffic accident at Mamfe-Amamprobi on Monday, 8th September 2025.
A DAF cargo truck with registration number GR 3583-15 loaded with over 1,000 cartons of bottled water had veered off the road, trapping the driver inside due to severe damage to the head compartment.
The rescue team successfully extricated the driver and transported him to the Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital for medical treatment.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the accident was caused by brake failure while the truck was en route to Kumasi.
The incident resulted in injury of one person, the driver, with no fatalities reported.
The vehicle sustained partial damage to the head compartment, four rims damaged, and two tyres completely destroyed.

Afenyo-Markin pays fees for 33 Volta students at Legon
The Member of Parliament for Effutu and Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has paid the school fees of 33 students from the Volta Region studying at the University of Ghana, Legon.
The beneficiaries, who are members of the Volta Regional Students Association (VORSA), received a total of GHC 105,000 in financial support this afternoon.
Mr. Afenyo-Markin encouraged the students to remain disciplined, take their studies seriously, and strive for excellence.
He said education is vital for national development and urged the beneficiaries to become responsible citizens who can contribute meaningfully to the progress of the country.
