Ghana Beauty Awards reward hard-working stakeholders

Stakeholders in the beauty industry have been awarded at the 7th Ghana Beauty Awards held at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra.
The Event rewards Practitioners, Wholesalers, and Retailers of Beauty Products, Service Providers, Beauty Training Institutions, Pioneers, Advocates, Supporters, and Partners of the Beauty Industry.
This year’s award is the 7th edition under the theme; Celebrating Excellence; Finding Perfection in Imperfection.
The Deputy Minister for Education, Gifty Twum-Ampofo, during her address, said, for seven years Rebecca Donkor has been on her toes complementing the effort of the education ministry, adding that regardless of the teacher’s role, you need industry players to augment because it must be taught the way it is accepted.
The Creative Arts industry is an essential part of every aspect of one’s life and therefore, there is a need for standardisation, something the organisers have been working towards through various programmes.
She congratulated Rebecca Donkor and the industry players for their tremendous contributions over the years.
Speaking at the event, the Deputy Minister for Tourism Arts and Culture, Mark Okraku Mantey said that beauticians play a major role in society, “can you imagine us without all the functions the beauty industry plays in the lives of people, especially the ladies?”
He acknowledged the role of the beauty industry in job and revenue generation for the country, adding that it was why the President Akuffo-Addo government is establishing the Creative Arts School in Kwadaso in Kumasi.
Again, the Deputy Minister urged players in the sector to take advantage of the African Continental Free Trade Area (ACFTA), saying it’s a big industry, considering the size of the African Market
Mr.Okraku Mantey said last year that the creative industry in the United States of America in 2022 made $ 49 billion from the Creative Industry, “ giving us hope it is an industry that can be nurtured and developed to bring us more revenue as a country.”
He touched on December in GH, saying there would be a lot of commerce for the beauty industry and urged them to reposition their industry to tap the advantage.
The brain behind the scheme, Rebecca Donkor, said over the years the scheme has made an effort to recognise excellence and continuously raise the performance bar by awarding stakeholders which has created a positive competition amongst members and raised the image and reputation.
This he said has made the industry in Ghana thrive in the country and beyond.
She revealed that the stakeholder engagement after the first edition has led to Makeup Ghana commencing a standardisation programme in 2018 underpinned by Certification and Licensing, Code of Practice and Product Certification.
With the help of the Ghana Skills Development Fund in 2020, they launched the very first Curriculum in Makeup Artistry, Certificates 1 and 2, under the Commission for Technical and Vocational Educational Training (CTVET), adding that the developed Higher National Diploma would be rolled out in the first quarter of next year.
Lifetime honourees were given free weekend stay at Royal Senchi
The Ghana Beauty Awards started with the sole objective of championing excellence and continuously raising the performance bar by awarding stakeholders who have distinguished themselves.
Over the years, the Awards have created healthy competition among stakeholders, shaped conduct and service delivery, and raised the image and reputation of the Industry.
The event rewards stakeholders in several areas of the beauty trade.

TGMA 27 unveils red carpet theme ‘A Touch of Glitter’

Organisers of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards 27 have announced “A Touch of Glitter as the official red carpet theme for this year’s ceremony.’’
In a statement issued on Thursday, April 16, Charterhouse indicated that the theme is designed to promote elegance and creativity while maintaining a refined fashion standard.
According to the organisers, the red carpet remains one of the most anticipated moments of the awards, offering artistes, celebrities, and guests the opportunity to express themselves through fashion while celebrating Ghanaian identity.
They explained that for this year’s edition, attendees are encouraged to include subtle elements of shimmer in their outfits.
This, they noted, can be done through fabric choices, embellishments, or accessories, with the focus on elegance rather than excess.
The statement added that the red carpet event will take place on May 9, 2026, at 7:06 pm, ahead of the main awards ceremony.
Head of Public Events and Communications at Charterhouse, Robert Klah, noted that the theme invites guests to explore creativity with sophistication while maintaining a polished appearance.
The organisers further assured that the event will continue to deliver a blend of music, fashion, and culture, making it a key highlight on Ghana’s entertainment calendar.

4th Kaba and Slit Festival set for May 1

The fourth edition of the fast-rising fashion and cultural event, the Slit and Kaba Festival, is set to take place on May 1 at the Legon City Mall in Accra.
Organised by Roots Africa, the festival aims to promote Ghanaian culture through the traditional Kaba and Slit outfit, known for its vibrant African prints and unique designs.
Speaking to The Spectator Agoro ahead of this year’s edition, dubbed “Old School Kaba and Slit Meets Batakari,” the Founder of Roots Africa, Mrs. Deborah Kabutey-Djisah, popularly known as Manye Korngo, said the event has gained significant popularity over the years and promised an even bigger experience this time around.
“The intention is to revive old-school fashion while celebrating our revered Fugu, also known as Batakari, which has gained massive exposure in recent times,” she stated.
“It is also an opportunity to showcase our culture and demonstrate to young people how fashion has evolved over the years,” she added.
She further called on vendors to come on board to display their products and services, noting that thousands of patrons are expected to attend the event.
“Don’t miss the chance to have your brand featured on our flyers, make incredible sales, and be part of an unforgettable experience,” she urged.
According to her, the previous edition was a great success, attracting patrons from across the country. Due to the growing interest, a larger venue had to be secured to accommodate the anticipated crowd.
“I’m expecting ten times more people than we had at last year’s festival,” she added.
