Published

on

In the vibrant tapestry of Ghana’s creative industry, few figures shine as brightly as Eben A. Yelson, known affectionately as DS De Golden Bhoy.

As an Artistic Director, Actor, TV Presenter, Creative Writer, and Youth Development Professional, Yelson has made it his mission to empower the next generation of creatives.

His work transcends borders, as evident by his recent international successes, most notably as the creative producer of the award-winning short film, Supercilious.

Supercilious is not just a film; it’s a powerful narrative born from a Ghana-USA collaboration aimed at inspiring young people.

By addressing the social challenges faced by the youth, the film encourages them to harness their potential and make assertive decisions that can positively impact their lives and their communities.

The film’s core message is a beacon of hope, urging young people to rise above societal odds and strive for greatness.

The significance of Supercilious was highlighted when it became the only Ghanaian creative project selected for the prestigious NAACP Image Awards 2023.

This accolade not only showcased Yelson’s talent but also placed Ghana’s creative industry on an international stage, with Yelson being the sole nominee from Ghana invited to attend the awards.

Such recognition is a testament to his dedication and vision for a brighter future for African cinema.

Yelson’s achievements with Supercilious have been remarkable. The film has secured multiple awards, including honours at the International Black & Diversity Film Festival (IBDFF) 2022 and the ARG International Film Festival 2022 in Paris.

It has also been recognized as an official selection at notable events such as the Detroit Black Film Festival 2023, IWFA, Afro Animation Short Film Award 2022, BRIFF Shots 2023, the Afro Animation Short Film Award 2022, and The African Film Festival 2022, each accolade reinforces Yelson’s belief in the power of storytelling to effect change.

Beyond his work in film, Yelson is a staunch advocate for the creative industry in Ghana. He recognizes the importance of collaboration and knowledge-sharing, which is why he has actively invited experienced directors, actors, and producers from the United States to Ghana.

His initiatives, including the Hollywood to Africa initiative and a trainer/ advocate for the Teach Coach Mentor programme by American Producer Mr. George Ohan have brought invaluable training opportunities to aspiring creatives.

These programmes connect local talent with international professionals in the fields of filmmaking, screenwriting, and entertainment marketing, providing them with the tools they need to succeed in a competitive industry.

He also spearheaded the Antirecidivism movement in Ghana which had its core mandate to reaching out to ex-convicts to have social, emotional and cognitive transformation and how some of the ways they can be reintegrated into society void of rejection.

Yelson’s commitment to youth development extends to high school media training programmes, where he equips students with essential media skills and fosters their creative talents.

By investing in the next generation, Yelson is not only championing individual growth but also nurturing a thriving creative ecosystem in Ghana.

In a world where the arts can often be overlooked, Yelson stands as a shining example of what can be achieved with passion, dedication, and a vision for change.

Ken Agyapong’s campaign team urges NPP to punish Ashanti and Bono chairmen

Published

on

The campaign team of New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful Ken Agyapong is urging the party’s leadership to take swift action against the Ashanti and Bono Regional Chairmen over what it describes as anti-party conduct.

According to the team, two videos on social media show Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Chairman Wontumi) and Kwame Baffoe (Abronye) alleging manipulation of the party’s electoral register and processes to favour a particular candidate ahead of the January 2026 presidential primaries.

The group believes the comments amount to gross misconduct and violate the NPP constitution.

Team Ken is calling on the National Executive Committee (NEC) and the National Council to immediately summon the two regional chairmen before the appropriate disciplinary bodies.

The group believes strong action will send a clear message that no member, regardless of rank or status, is above party rules.

The team warns that failure to act quickly could deepen public perceptions of bias and damage the integrity of the party’s primaries.

It reassures NPP members of its commitment to a transparent, free, and fair electoral process and urges supporters to stay vigilant.
