Catholic Relief Services supports 10 District Health Directorates in northern sector
The Catholic Relief Services (CRS) has donated 20 motorbikes to 10 District Directorates of Ghana Health Service (GHS) in the northern sector.
The donation worth hundreds of Ghana cedis is under the Rural Emergency Health Service and Transport for System Development (REST4D) project.
REST4D which is a three-year project is meant to promote timely health care to the people in the area.
Mr Michael Gyimah, Head of Operations of the CRS who presented the motorbikes to the GHS at Tamale on Tuesday said it was part of CRS’ efforts to improve quality health delivery in the beneficiary districts.
He maintained that the CRS was committed to support service providers such as GHS to deliver quality services to the most vulnerable in the society.
He stated that maternal and child health care continued to be a major challenge in some parts of the northern sector hence the donation.
He stressed that the motorbikes would help the health workers to reach remote communities in the operational areas, and hinted that CRS would sooner than later support health workers in the area to introduce modified motor tricycle ambulance.
Mr Gyimah said that the move would help transport pregnant and children from the hard-to-reach communities to the nearest health facilities on time for treatment.
Dr Dubik Daniel, Central Gonja Director of Ghana Health Service who received the motorbikes on behalf of the beneficiaries commended CRS for the gesture.
He was very optimistic that the donation would sustain the gains made in health care delivery in the health sector.
Dr Daniel pledged to use the motorbikes for the intended purpose as well as ensure their regular maintenance.

Ghana signs debt restructuring agreement with Belgium

Ghana has signed a debt restructuring agreement with the Kingdom of Belgium as part of efforts to restore the country’s economic stability after the financial crisis that hit the nation in 2022 and 2023.
The Minister of Finance, Cassiel Ato Forson, today disclosed that he signed the agreement on behalf of the Government of Ghana.
He explained that Ghana experienced a very difficult period during the crisis, which forced the government at the time to declare a debt default.
However, he indicated that the country is now recovering and witnessing a significant economic turnaround.
According to him, stronger systems are also being put in place to ensure that Ghana does not return to such a situation again.
Dr Forson noted that the agreement with Belgium is the eighth deal Ghana has concluded with countries under the Official Creditor Committee as part of its external debt restructuring programme.
He expressed appreciation to the Government of Belgium for its support and partnership with Ghana during the process.
The Finance Minister thanked Carole van Eyll, Ambassador of Belgium to Ghana, for her role in strengthening relations between the two countries.
The agreement forms part of Ghana’s broader effort to restructure its external debts and stabilise the economy following the crisis.
