Man jailed 25 years over Kasoa-Winneba Highway robbery

The Central East Regional Police Command yesterday, Tuesday July 8, 2025 secured conviction of accused person Mohammed Bello aged 20.
The convict Mohammed Bello on July 6,2025 at about 12:30am, at Dabanyin near Gomoa Buduatta junction along the Kasoa-Winneba road together with four other accomplices currently on the run, robbed drivers and passengers of their belongings.
Some items stolen included mobile phones and an unspecified amount of money.
Through a swift and intelligence-led police response, Mohammed Bello was arrested within the
vicinity while trying to escape.
A search conducted on him led to the recovery of cash the sum of GH$3,740.00, two Samsung smartphones, one Tecno Spark 20, an ltel keypad phone, an Itel power
bank, a lady’s purse, five sticks of cigarettes, a wristwatch, a headset, and a mobile phone charger
head as well as a pair of sandals which was identified by one of the victims during investigations.
After thorough and painstaking investigations, he was arraigned before the Ofaakor Circuit Court yesterday,
July 8, 2025 where he pleaded guilty to the charges of robbery and was subsequently sentenced to 25 years imprisonment with hard labour.
The Central East Regional Police command remains resolute in its commitment to ensuring the
safety and security of the public by bringing all accomplices of this crime to face the full rigors of the law.

Afenyo-Markin pays fees for 33 Volta students at Legon

The Member of Parliament for Effutu and Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has paid the school fees of 33 students from the Volta Region studying at the University of Ghana, Legon.
The beneficiaries, who are members of the Volta Regional Students Association (VORSA), received a total of GHC 105,000 in financial support this afternoon.
Mr. Afenyo-Markin encouraged the students to remain disciplined, take their studies seriously, and strive for excellence.
He said education is vital for national development and urged the beneficiaries to become responsible citizens who can contribute meaningfully to the progress of the country.

Gold Board secures $1bn deal to boost responsible mining in Ghana

The Ghana Gold Board has entered into a partnership with Goldstream Global DMCC to attract a US$1 billion investment into the country’s mining sector.
Chief Executive Officer of the Board, Sammy Gyamfi, disclosed at the 2025 Minerals and Mining Convention that the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on August 22, 2025.
The agreement, he explained, will pave the way for the establishment of more than 300 responsible mines across the country.
The project will be carried out in collaboration with concession owners, the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, and allied agencies.
Mr Gyamfi said the initiative is expected to increase Ghana’s gold output, create thousands of jobs, and ensure that mining is done in a more sustainable and environmentally friendly manner.
He emphasised that the partnership forms part of the Gold Board’s commitment to transform small-scale mining, curb illegal operations, and maximise the benefits of the sector for national development.
