I’m a member of NPP, but they have no hand in my SRC president ambition – Guru

Ghanaian musician and University of Ghana SRC presidential candidate, Maradona Adjei Yeboah, known as Guru, has said he is a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Despite supporting Dr Bawumia’s ideas, he said the ruling party is not involved in his SRC ambition.
He said, “I’m a member of NPP, and I support Bawumia’s ideas, but they have no hand in my SRC ambition. The students don’t like mixing mainstream politics with school politics. I am solely sponsoring my campaign.”
In an interview on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem on Monday, Guru also outlined key issues he aims to address if elected SRC President, including accommodation, transportation, and the need for free data for online lectures.
“Accommodation is a problem, 60 per cent of the students come from home, and transportation is difficult because the country is already hard,” he explained.
Guru also plans to implement a policy for at least one sick bay in every hall, highlighting his focus on student welfare.
“I’ll address accommodation, transport, sick bay, and data issues when I become the UG SRC President,” he promised.

Two Firefighters, one Civilian sustain injuries at Lartebiokorshie warehouse fire- GNFS

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) says two of its officers and one civilian sustained injuries in a warehouse fire that broke out at Lartebiokorshie near the Salvation Army School in Accra on Tuesday, September 9, 2025.
In an incident update shared on its official Facebook page, the Service said it received a distress call at 4:15 p.m. and dispatched a response a minute later.
The first fire tender from the Greater Accra Regional Headquarters Substation arrived at 4:24 p.m., where the blaze was already well advanced.
According to the GNFS, reinforcements quickly followed, with five additional fire tenders from Industrial Area, Circle, Accra Metro, Ministries, and Flagstaff House fire stations, supported by four private water tankers.
The Service explained that after several hours of firefighting, the blaze was brought under control at 7:44 p.m., preventing it from spreading to nearby residential homes.
It added that the injured firefighters and civilian were treated and are recovering well.
The GNFS noted that earth-moving equipment is currently being used to excavate debris to fully extinguish the fire, which involved leather and plastic footwear materials stored in the warehouse.

Government orders evacuation of Excavators from Tema Port

The Government of Ghana has directed that all excavators currently at the Port of Tema be moved to military installations in Tema, Shai Hills, and Accra.
The Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), which issued the directive on Friday, August 22, 2025, said the exercise is being carried out in collaboration with security and regulatory agencies.
According to the GPHA, the move is aimed at regulating the importation of excavators and ensuring that they are kept safely until their owners complete the necessary clearance processes.
The GPHA explained that the evacuation will also help decongest the Port and create more space for other goods.
It revealed that existing customs clearance procedures will still apply. However, once importers complete their clearance, they will now have to collect their equipment from the designated military facilities.
The GPHA added that all costs involved in transporting the excavators to the military sites, as well as custody charges, will be the responsibility of the consignees.
The Authority appealed to stakeholders to comply with the directive, stressing that the exercise is in the interest of both national security and smooth trade operations.
