GFA, Guinness launch 2023/24 Women’s Premier League

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has officially launched the 2023/24 Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League.

The launch which took place at “The Fitzgerald” in Cantonments saw major stakeholders in Women’s football coming together to deliberate on the upcoming season.

In her welcome address, newly elected Women’s representative on the Executive Council, Dr. Gifty Oware Mensah opined the Women’s game has seen massive facelift, development and assured that the GFA is ever ready to continue the efforts to uplift the Women’s game.

Mrs Oware Mensah also extended gratitude to developing partners Betway, broadcast partners, IMAX media, Goil, Melcom, Decathlon and InterCity STC for the immense support for the Women’s game.

She added that the GFA has made conscious effort to train over 80 Women in coaching i.e. Lincense D and C as well as educational seminars for administrators with support from development partners Betway. The GFA has also secured sponsorship to supply free kits for Referees, football equipment for the clubs, shopping vouchers and as other goodies.

Managing Director of Guinness Ghana Limited, Estella Muzito admitted that the company is looking forward to another exciting season after a successful 2022/23 campaign.

“During the first season, we saw the massive support from fans and determination from these incredibly talented young athletes during the games’’ she said.

‘’This really shows how Women’s football is taking its much-deserved place in the hearts and minds of the people. I am thrilled to share why the upcoming second season of this partnership is poised to be even better than the first”.

‘’Malta Guinness has always been deeply committed to creating a ‘Can-Do’ World. We are happy that through this partnership with the GFA we are able to throw more light on Women’s football in the country, demystify the misconceptions, give Women footballers’ equal opportunities and also promote sports development across the country’’.

“I must acknowledge that we have made some significant progress and through your continued and unwavering support, we will make giant strides and raise the flag of Ghana even higher’’ Felicite added.

Speaking on behalf of the Women’s Premier League Management committee, Deputy Chairperson, Rosalind Amoh admitted that the past season presented us with excitement, thrills and high performance. She added that the committee is hoping we have a great season ahead where the notch will be raised higher with new records been set.

For her part, the Marketing Manager of Guinness Breweries Dinah Adu-Asare Darko also acknowledged the conscious effort by her organisation to create an enabling environment to unlock the potential of Women as far as Ghana football is concerned.

Club CEOs, coaches and captains of all the 20 participating teams as well as some former players were in attendance.

The 2023/24 Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League season would start on the weekend of Friday, October 27 to Monday, October 30, 2023.

Man arrested in Ashaiman for allegedly posing as soldier and extorting money

The Tema Regional Police Command has arrested a 32-year-old man for allegedly posing as a soldier and extorting money from unsuspecting members of the public at Ashaiman.

The suspect, identified as Bright Atsu Kudiabor, was arrested by the Ashaiman Police on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at about 7:00 a.m.

According to the Police, he was arrested at an area known as “I Shall Return”, where he was allegedly parading himself as a soldier and demanding money from people.

The Police said Kudiabor, who is an ex-convict, was initially arrested by personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service in Ashaiman with assistance from other members of the public.

A search conducted on him after he was handed over to the Police reportedly led to the recovery of a set of military camouflage uniform.

The suspect is currently in Police custody and assisting with investigations.

The Tema Regional Police Command said he would be processed for court after investigations are completed.

The Police urged the public to remain vigilant and report anyone who falsely presents themselves as a soldier or a member of another security agency to deceive or extort money from the public.

Volta has enormous agricultural potential – Regional Minister

Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, says the Volta Region holds enormous agricultural potential and efforts must be geared towards connecting farmers to the needed resources to unlock that potential.

He said focus must be on linking farmers to resources, technology, financing and markets to increase production, create jobs and build sustainable livelihoods.

Hon. Gunu made the remarks at the national launch of the Ghana Tomato Self-Sufficiency Initiative (GHATSI) held at Anloga in the Volta Region on Tuesday, September 15.

The initiative, under the theme “Produce at Home. Feed the Nation. Export the Surplus,” seeks to boost local tomato production, processing and marketing while reducing Ghana’s heavy reliance on imported tomatoes.

The launch was attended by the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, his Deputy, John Setor Dumelo, Feed Ghana Coordinator, Bright Demordzi, Members of Parliament, traditional leaders, MMDCEs, farmers and other stakeholders.

Mr.Gunu expressed appreciation to the Minister for Food and Agriculture for the support announced for the region, including two excavators, 200 cartons of organic fertiliser, and GH¢200,000 for Ms. Kuatudzo Esther Dela, a tomato farmer and processor from Ziope.

He described the initiative as an important step towards making agriculture a stronger driver of food security, job creation and economic growth in the Volta Region.
