SAPS Investigates murder of Ghanaian in South Africa

The South African Police Service (SAPS) has confirmed the murder of a 35-year-old Ghanaian man, Mr. Kwabena Boagen, in Nyanga on Monday, June 29, 2026.
Police say the killing occurred at about 15:45 at the Nyanga Terminus, outside NTG Hair Salon and Shoe Repairs. Preliminary findings indicate it was linked to what they describe as extortion, adding that gunmen are yet to be arrested.
Emergency Medical Services declared Boagen dead at the scene. He lived in Khayelitsha but worked in Nyanga.
Nyanga detectives have opened a murder docket and are investigating.
SAPS said detectives have spoken to a relative of the deceased and conveyed condolences on behalf of the service. A post-mortem was conducted today by Department of Health officials.
SAPS also responded to a statement from Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs about an alleged murder in Khayelitsha. Police said they have “no record” of that incident and have asked Ghanaian authorities to share details to aid investigations.
“Nyanga detectives are hard at work investigating the murder with a view to apprehending the perpetrators,” SAPS said.

Maiden Ghana Platinum Excellence Award to honour business legacy

Ghana Platinum Excellence Award, has officially been launched as a national movement to celebrate institutions that have shaped Ghana’s economic story across generations.
The ceremony is expected to be held in September 2026 with about 20 categories for companies in the private sector.
As part of the structure of the scheme, a panel would assess entries received and select the deserving winners.
Speaking at the media launch held at Delish Restaurant at the Unveils Ghana, the Chieif Executive Officer of the scheme, veteran actor, Nii Saka Brown, said the award was created to recognise organisations whose “resilience, vision, leadership, and consistency” have stood the test of time.
“Every nation has institutions that become part of its identity. Companies that survive decades do more than conduct business, they create jobs, build communities, support families, inspire entrepreneurs, and contribute to national development,” he said.
He noted that while innovation often takes the spotlight, few platforms exist to honour businesses that have endured for generations.
According to Mr. Brown, the Ghana Platinum Excellence Award will recognise longevity, by honouring companies with sustained impact over time.
Additionally, he noted that the awards will celebrate resilience, spotlight business excellence and institutional strength as well as promote governance by encourage good corporate governance and continuity.
The CEO added that it is their expectation to inspire the next generation, motivate future entrepreneurs and business leaders,”Preserve heritage*: Document Ghana’s corporate and industrial history.”
“This award is not simply about identifying the oldest organisations. It is about celebrating endurance, recognising contribution, and acknowledging institutions whose legacies continue to influence Ghana’s progress,” he explained.
Mr. Brown said the platform is envisioned to become a respected national recognition programme that pushes businesses to “think beyond short-term success and focus on building institutions that endure.”
He called on government, corporate partners, sponsors, and the media to support the initiative. He also assured qualifying companies that the platform will be dedicated to telling their stories.
“Starting a business is difficult. Building one that lasts for generations is extraordinary,” Mr. Brown added, as he declared the official start of the movement.

“I’m battle-tested to deliver”

The North East Regional Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Lawyer Sulley Sambian, has disclosed that he is tried, tested, and battle-ready to assume the position of Regional Chairman.
He indicated that over the period, he has groomed himself well and has what it takes to ensure the party, in the home region of the NPP flagbearer, continues to widen its dominance over the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
In a brief interaction with the media in Tamale, the private legal practitioner said that his quest for the position stems from his desire to make the North East Region a no-go area for the opposition.
He said, “I am tried, tested, and ready to lead the NPP in the region as Chairman. I am offering my expertise following years of service to ensure that the region becomes a no-go area for our opponents.”
This is the home region of our flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and it requires very skilled hands to steer affairs and ensure that his victory in 2028 is not a mirage.
” I have the strategy and the mental ability to deliver,” he assured.
According to him, the 2028 contest will not be about who is good at engaging in propaganda, but about who can combine brawn and brainpower to reclaim and increase the parliamentary seats in the area.
Lawyer Sambian will face incumbent Regional Chairman Nurudeen, who was retained at the last Regional Conference in Nalerigu on May 27, 2022.
At that conference, Nurudeen won with 71 of 146 valid votes, a 21-vote margin over his closest challenger, former Yagaba-Kubore Constituency Chairman Akamara Bawah Henry, who polled 50 votes.
