Former Trade Minister and Independent candidate, Alan Kyerematen, has addressed a notable reprimand penned in 2008 by the founding member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), the late B.J. da Rocha.
In this letter, the chairman expressed that Alan should be allowed to depart from the party at his own discretion, attributing this stance to Alan being a disruptive influence within the group.
These remarks by da Rocha have resurfaced in light of Alan’s recent departure from the NPP on Monday.
Alan Kyerematen made the decision to run as an independent candidate on September 25, officially resigning from the NPP.
During an appearance on Accra-based UTV, Alan recounted a series of events pertaining to how he had to confront the late chairman regarding his approach to resolving tensions at that time.
“I had just met Da Rocha in Accra on my way to Kumasi and when I arrived, he had already granted an interview [issued a statement], calling me a disruptive factor,” Alan said.
The letter as captured by Myjoyonline.com saw Da Rocha projecting that Alan, who finished as runner-up in the 2008 NPP flagbearer presidential race will become a “disruptive factor, a stumbling block, and a loose canon if accepted back into the fold of the NPP.”
But in the interview on UTV, Alan Kyerematen said the former NPP Chairman backtracked later on.
“When I had the opportunity, I confronted him frontally and asked him if he was serious at all because I felt as an elderly person, he should have known better. I told him he acted in bad faith. Later on, he called consistently to apologise before his death.”
The presidential aspirant who placed third during the party’s Super Delegates Congress will contest the 2024 election as an independent presidential candidate.
He explained “My decision to contest as an Independent Candidate will not destroy the Party, but instead provide the Party an opportunity to participate in a Government of National Unity in the future, and avoid the risk of going into opposition with no dividends, in what arguably will be a difficult general election in 2024.

Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has announced that the government has accepted the recommendation to abolish the death penalty and replace it with life imprisonment as part of the constitutional review process.
He said the proposed amendment would affect Articles 3, 13, 19 and 72 of the 1992 Constitution, with offences that previously attracted the death penalty instead carrying life imprisonment.
Dr. Ayine made the announcement on July 30, 2026, at the Jubilee House in Accra during the Government Accountability Series while outlining the government’s position on the final recommendations of the Constitution Review Committee.
According to him, the government believes the death penalty is inconsistent with the constitutional right to life and Ghana’s international human rights obligations.
He explained that the recommendation forms part of broader proposals aimed at strengthening the protection of fundamental human rights under the Constitution.
Dr. Ayine said the government had also accepted the spirit of several recommendations to expand rights relating to women, children, persons with disabilities, older persons and the youth.
He added that a comprehensive Human Rights Act would be introduced to protect these rights and provide detailed enforcement mechanisms instead of amending the entrenched provisions of the Constitution through a national referendum.

Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has called on both local and international investors to tap into opportunities in Ghana’s tourism, hospitality and creative industries.
Speaking in an interview yesterday with World Media USA Today, the Minister said government is committed to creating a conducive investment environment to support growth in the sector.
She highlighted key investment areas including hotels, fashion, music, film production, and tourism infrastructure.
Dzifa Gomashie also encouraged Ghanaians to invest in domestic tourism to help boost the local economy.
According to her, strategic investment in tourism and the creative economy will drive economic transformation, create jobs, and position Ghana as Africa’s gateway for heritage, culture, business and investment.
“Ghana has vast opportunities across tourism, hospitality and the creative industries. We are ready and open for business,” she stated.
The Minister’s remarks come as government intensifies efforts to leverage culture and tourism as drivers of economic growth and job creation.
