Immigration Service Graduates 19th Cadet Intake to augment human resource capacity

The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has held a graduation ceremony for its 19th cadet intake at the Immigration Academy and Training School in Assin Foso in the Central Region to augment human resource capacity of the Service.
In his address, the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak underscored the critical role of GIS in maintaining national security and promoting economic development.
According to him, GIS’s role in national security and development cannot be underestimated, as the GIS serves as the first line of defense, ensuring that whatever comes in and goes out of the country is monitored, including the issuance of visas to non-Ghanaians.
Announcing plans to automate the residence permit process, Hon. Muntaka tasked GIS to also adopt innovative and robust approach to manage migration in the country.
He urged the Service to leverage modern technology to improve efficiency to the Service’s operations.
The Minister also disclosed that the GIS has mapped out a clear strategic direction towards achieving its aspirations in line with the 24-Hour Economy initiative.
He urged the Service to sustain its enthusiasm and demonstrate tenacity in its operations to enable foreign nationals to access immigration permits within a 24-hour period.
Mr. Muntaka commended the graduating cadets for their successful completion of the training, acknowledging their tireless efforts and dedication.
He urged them to uphold the virtues and high standards of discipline imparted to them and to exhibit high levels of integrity in the performance of their duties.

Two arrested over robbery attack on Berekum Chelsea team

The Police have arrested two suspects, including the alleged gang leader, in connection with the robbery attack on the Berekum Chelsea football team that resulted in the death of one of the players.
According to a Police update, the arrests were made after intelligence-led operations by security personnel.
One of the suspects sustained gunshot wounds during an exchange of fire with the police.
He has since been taken to a hospital where he is receiving medical treatment, while the other suspect remains in police custody assisting with investigations.
The Police indicated that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the gang linked to the attack.
They assured the public that more details will be provided as investigations progress.

Mahama arrives in Brazzaville for Congo president’s investiture

President John Dramani Mahama has arrived in Brazzaville to attend the investiture ceremony of Denis Sassou N’Guesso.
The ceremony follows the re-election of President Sassou N’Guesso for another five year term as leader of the Republic of the Congo.
President Mahama travelled to Brazzaville shortly after launching his Free Primary Healthcare Programme in Dodowa.
He is expected to return to Accra after the ceremony scheduled for Thursday morning.
