Haitians in Ghana on Sunday, May 18, 2025 held the country’s Flag Day at the Coco Palm Inn, West Airport in Accra.

The well-attended event attracted travelling Hatians and those domiciled in Ghana.

In an address, Ghana’s Consulate General to Haiti, Ambassador Ray Quarcoo, said the day was a memorable occasion to celebrate the flag, heart, soul, and enduring spirit of Haiti.

“Our flag tells the story of our struggles and triumphs, of the sacrifices made by our ancestors, and it continues to inspire us to strive for freedom, equality, and justice.”

He added “As we stand together far from our beloved homeland, we remind ourselves that our identity is unbound by geography.

“Here in Ghana, a land known for its own rich culture and resilient spirit, we find common ground.

Our unity today is a powerful testament to the strength of our Haitian heritage—a heritage built on courage, unity, and the ceaseless pursuit of a better tomorrow.

“Let us embrace the pride of our nation by looking back with gratitude to those who paved the way and by looking forward with determination to create a future that honours our legacy. In every smile, every gesture of kindness, and every communal effort, we carry a piece of Haiti with us, a beacon of hope and a reminder to always hold our head high,” Ambassador Quarcoo stated.

Everyone really put in their best. The rain didn’t matter. I’m so glad and look forward to the next gathering.

She made the appeal during the Supreme Court at 150 celebration held at the University of Ghana, under the theme “Honouring the past, celebrating the present and defining the future.”

Reflecting on the significance of the celebration, she explained that the year 1876 marks not only the establishment of the Supreme Court but also the beginning of formally trained lawyers in the Gold Coast.

The GBA President questioned what Ghana would be without the rule of law, which is upheld by judges and lawyers, adding that the country could descend into a system where only the strongest survive if justice is not properly administered.

She further encouraged legal practitioners to reflect on their responsibilities and remain committed to upholding the rule of law for the benefit of all citizens.
