Esi Chelle pioneers new sound of Afrobeat with ‘A Letter To My Lover’

United States of America-based Ghanaian musician, Esi Chelle has pioneered a new sound of Afrobeat with the release of her Extended Play (EP) dubbed ‘A letter To My Lover’.

In music circles, an EP is a musical recording that contains more tracks than a single but is usually unqualified as an album.

Speaking to The Spectator , she said, in recent times, there had been an influx of Afrobeat genre which could lead to Africans losing the originality of the sound in the near future.

This notwithstanding, she believes that as a young artiste, she has a vital role to play in pioneering a move to protect Afrobeat for more recognition through her new EP.

Esi Chelle noted that each track on the album has a different sound, “it has been fulfilling seeing people who I have no relation, promoting and jamming to the song. The EP is centred on the theme of love, with every song talking about the different phases of love and relationships.”

She told this paper that this was her debut EP, but she had earlier released a couple of singles, adding that a lot of things went into the production which led to quality of work loved by many.

The budding singer was pleased with the reception saying that it had been positive, and was optimistic about the future of the Ghanaian music industry.

The list of songs on the EP included, Fine With That, Dangerous, Addicted, Five Voicemail, Like That, Boys Like You, are available on all digital music stores.
