Rev Albert Seth Ocran, the Former General Director
for the Torchbearers Mission Incorporated
A former General Director of the Torchbearers Mission Incorporated (TMI) Rev. Albert Seth Ocran has advised parents to check up on their children, especially daughters, who are unable to visit them after getting married.
TMI is a missionary organisation at Korle Gonno in Accra. “Sometimes even the parents do not visit their children and they always give excuses. When you observe this trend, do not take it for granted because there is usually more to the story” he said.
Rev. Ocran was speaking in an interview with The Spectator on Friday on the need to draw the attention of parents to the subject of controlling behaviours of spouses.
According to him, this issue causes isolation among spouses, family and friends, hence there was the need for parents to be vigilant to address such issues.
He said there were signs to indicate when a spouse was being abused, which include restricting access to financial resources, employment, education or even medical care.
Rev. Ocran said most often when parents of such spouses try to make enquiry about why their children do not visit them, they always give excuses, with the most common one being “I am busy”.
He observed that in some cases, children of such spouses were not spared, as they had to endure the abuse of not being able to get in touch with others.
He said abusers ensure that their victims do not get access to the outside world to communicate their pain with them. “It is even worse when the couple lives abroad or far from their families

Duncan Williams recounts how Ghana lost huge volumes of gold through black market

Archbishop Nicholas Duncan Williams has recounted how Ghana allegedly lost huge amounts of gold through illegal channels, saying some countries recorded receiving significantly more gold from Ghana than the country officially recorded as having exported.
According to him during a sermon yesterday at his church in Accra, the revelation came during a dinner he attended with some members of a ruling family in a powerful Middle Eastern country several years ago.
He explained that during the dinner, discussions turned to Ghana’s gold, and the people at the gathering told him that the amount of illegally sourced gold they had received from Ghana was far greater than the volume officially recorded by the Ghanaian government.
“They did say that the amount of illegal gold that they have received and recorded from Ghana was more than the one that was recorded by the country, the nation itself,” he recounted.
The Archbishop added that the amount of gold the country had received through such channels was about three times the quantity officially recorded as having been sold to that country by Ghana.
He described the revelation as disturbing and expressed concern about the people behind the illegal gold trade.
“It disturbed me, it really broke my heart,” he said, adding that he was told the people involved were “very, very powerful” and had significant financial resources.
Archbishop Duncan Williams further recounted that after the establishment of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) under the current administration and efforts to regulate gold trading and tackle illegal mining, he received calls from people connected to the same country.
He explained that they were concerned because they were no longer getting the quantities of gold they used to obtain through the black market.
According to him, some of the people even asked whether he knew anyone at the top in Ghana who could help them regain access to the gold supply.
He noted that the amount of money involved in the gold purchases was substantial.
Archbishop Duncan Williams therefore called for prayers and intervention for Ghana, stressing the need to protect the country’s gold resources and ensure that the wealth generated from them benefits the nation.

Okoe Boye is a unifier and humble man, he will win NPP more seats in Greater Accra –Dr. Bawumia

Former Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has described the newly elected Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the party, Dr Bernard Okoe Boye, as a unifier and humble person.
He expressed confidence that Dr Okoe Boye’s leadership would help the NPP win more parliamentary seats in the Greater Accra Region in the 2028 general election.
Dr Bawumia made the remarks at his residence at Tseaddo on August 16 2026 while congratulating the newly elected Greater Accra Regional Executives and constituency chairpersons.
“Okoe Boye is a unifier, humble and a good man i believe he is going to win us a lot of seats in the Greater Accra Region,” he said.
He noted that the party’s main objective was to win the 2028 general election, adding that the recent internal elections formed part of the preparations towards achieving that goal.
According to him, the NPP had already completed elections at the polling station, electoral area and constituency levels, followed by the regional elections.
He explained that the party’s reorganisation process would be completed with the national elections scheduled for October 3.
Dr Bawumia said the completion of the reorganisation would put the NPP in a stronger position to prepare for the 2028 election.
“The goal for all of us is to win the 2028 election. This is just a stepping stone towards winning 2028,” he noted.
He congratulated the newly elected regional executives and constituency chairpersons, saying they had worked hard throughout the internal election process.
Dr Bawumia, however, cautioned that there was still a lot of work ahead and urged the party’s members and executives to remain focused on the task of rebuilding the party and preparing it for the 2028 election.
