NPP primaries: Candidates asked to accept results in party’s interest
Nii Odarley France, the Greater Accra Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has asked aspiring parliamentary candidates of the party and their followers to accept the outcome of the upcoming primaries in the interest of the party towards Election 2020.
He cautioned supporters, members, well wishers and faithful to maintain discipline after the contest and unite as a family with a common agenda to retain power in 2021 to continue the good works of the party.
“Comport yourself, follow all rules of the elections, do not love an aspirant more than yourself, which must not divide the party since it is just contest if you lose today, it is not end of the world because you can contest the next time and on Saturday after poll there will be winners and losers.
“What we all need to understand is despite divergence of ideas, we are all working in interest of party, personally I lost number of times before securing current position, we are one family, we need to work together at all times, it is only through togetherness and intensive campaigns re-election of President Nana Akufo-Addo will occur for NPP to continue its growth and development agenda,” Nii Odarley France stressed.
Speaking on primaries to be held at 20 constituencies in Greater Accra Region, he noted that bearing in mind COVID-19 pandemic precautionary measures and hygienic protocols by the state, the constituencies had been decentralised to ensure that no more than 100 delegates congregated to vote.
Using Ablekuma Central as an instance, Nii Odarley France indicated that the constituency had seven polling stations but due to decentralisation the number would be increased to 10 stations, saying, “The party has put in place measures to ensure all precautionary measures and hygienic protocols are observed to keep voters safe and both party and aspirants have enough personal protective equipment for the elections.
“The party is liaising with security agencies to provide adequate security at all centres, and about three constituencies including Dome-Kwabenya and Ablekuma North to maintain peace and order, however, a committee is working assiduously to protect and promote welfare of sitting Members of Parliament, women aspirants as well as encouraging youth participation,” Nii Odarley France assured. -GNA
The 24 Hour Economy Authority has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Hunan Architectural Design Institute Group to support the planning of the Volta Economic Corridor.
The agreement aims to guide how land within the corridor will be used, design key infrastructure, and develop systems that will support large scale production.
The partnership will focus on detailed planning to make the area ready for investment and smooth business operations.
The project will include the development of agroecological parks, industrial zones, and transport networks to connect production centres to markets.
According to the Authority, proper planning is critical to building strong economic systems and expanding production across the corridor.
It noted that the collaboration with the Chinese design firm will help lay a solid foundation for industrial growth and long term development within the Volta Economic Corridor.

President of the Ghana Bar Association, Efua Ghartey, has called on judges and lawyers to carry out their duties with humility, fairness, and a strong sense of responsibility.
She made the appeal during the Supreme Court at 150 celebration held at the University of Ghana, under the theme “Honouring the past, celebrating the present and defining the future.”
Addressing participants, she noted that those in the legal profession occupy positions of great power and influence, and must therefore remain humble in the discharge of their duties.
She urged both the bench and the bar to deliver justice without fear or ill will, stressing the need for fairness in handling cases.
Reflecting on the significance of the celebration, she explained that the year 1876 marks not only the establishment of the Supreme Court but also the beginning of formally trained lawyers in the Gold Coast.
The GBA President questioned what Ghana would be without the rule of law, which is upheld by judges and lawyers, adding that the country could descend into a system where only the strongest survive if justice is not properly administered.
She further encouraged legal practitioners to reflect on their responsibilities and remain committed to upholding the rule of law for the benefit of all citizens.
