Ghana’s largest gathering of digital innovation actors, GDIW returns

A week to showcase the Nation’s growing digital ecosystem is coming this October, as a way of building on the successes of last year’s event.
The Ghana Digital Innovation Week (GDIW) 2022 is scheduled for 26 -28 October 2022 at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre, with other satellite events happening across the country.
This year’s three-day event will connect digital and creative minds, corporate and grassroots, startups, intermediary organisations and policymakers.
GDIW 2022 offers a 360 Digital, Tech and Entrepreneurial stakeholder engagement, networking and a platform for businesses to make themselves known.
It is a nationwide set of events showcasing and celebrating milestones in Ghana’s Digital Innovation Ecosystem. GDIW provides a platform for various actors to learn, share ideas and create connections to enhance the progress of the landscape.
The week is co-created and co-owned by actors from the private sector, academia, policymakers, Development Partners, and Civil Society Organisations and supported by The Digital Transformation Centre, an initiative by the Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ)
The intention behind it is to foster the growth of technology and innovation that have been growing rapidly in Ghana. Workshops, competitions, and company visits are some of the activities during the event.
In the course of the week, there will be more than 30 sessions at several locations across the country. There will be dozens of presentations and displays from digital influencers and key players in the innovation ecosystem. With numerous event options, there’s something for everyone!
GDIW 2022 comprises segmented thematic setups tailored to various ecosystem sectors. Building on last year’s success of over 4,000 attendees and international participation from Rwanda, Nigeria, Uganda, Kenya, Egypt, Germany, Israel, Ireland, USA, UK, Switzerland and South Korea, this year will again see many high-level policy players, digital and tech personalities and enthusiasts.
The event will be streamed live on the Hopin Conferencing platform and will be organised in other regions. The nationwide participation of GDIW will enable further discourse in improving digital literacy, especially among the youth in rural areas.
Presidential staffer, Dr Sammy Ayeh has criticised the New Patriotic Party (NPP), accusing it of focusing on issues that do not address the needs of Ghanaians.
Commenting on the controversy surrounding a private family funeral of Gold board CEO, Sammy Gyamfi’s father on facebook , Dr Ayeh described attempts to politicise the event as unnecessary and a distraction from matters of national importance.
He argued that at a time when Ghana is focused on economic recovery, job creation, healthcare, education and attracting investment, the opposition should be concentrating on government policies and offering alternatives rather than discussing a private family ceremony.
According to him, the funeral was organised by a private family with relatives capable of managing their own affairs, making the political attention surrounding it unwarranted.
Dr Ayeh made the remarks while referring to President John Dramani Mahama’s recent engagement with members of the Ghanaian diaspora in London during his official working visit to the United Kingdom.
He noted that during the meeting, the President discussed Ghana’s development agenda, investment opportunities and the role of Ghanaians abroad in supporting national growth.
He indicated that Mr Mahama also highlighted measures being implemented by his administration in areas such as healthcare, education, infrastructure and social protection to improve the lives of citizens.
Dr Ayeh maintained that a responsible opposition party should examine such policies, question them where necessary and provide alternative solutions.
Instead, he contended that the NPP appeared more interested in what he described as “funeral politics” than issues affecting the daily lives of Ghanaians.
While acknowledging that questioning government actions is an important part of democracy, he stressed that such scrutiny must be constructive and aimed at advancing the public interest.
He further argued that opposition should be measured by the quality of ideas and alternatives presented rather than the volume of criticism.
Dr Ayeh expressed concern that the NPP had, in his view, replaced meaningful policy engagement with sensationalism and political theatrics.
He urged the party to focus on examining government programmes, proposing credible alternatives and contributing positively to national debate.
According to him, Ghanaians deserve an opposition that addresses pressing national issues and helps strengthen democratic governance.

The Central East Regional Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) has arrested 13 drivers for the unauthorised use of sirens and emergency lights during a special enforcement exercise conducted along the Kasoa-Winneba Highway.
The operation, carried out on 30th May 2026 at Budumburam, formed part of ongoing efforts to enforce road traffic regulations and promote discipline among motorists.
During the exercise, the drivers were found using sirens and emergency lamps without the required authorisation.
The MTTD Task Force educated the offenders on Regulations 65 and 74 of the Road Traffic Regulations, 2012 (L.I. 2180), after which they were processed in accordance with the law.
The unauthorised sirens and lamps were removed from the vehicles, and the drivers were issued warning letters and cautioned against engaging in the practice in the future.
The Central East Regional Police Command remains committed to enforcing road traffic regulations and ensuring order and safety on the country’s roads.
