Ahafo Minister cautions fresh SHS students against bad peer influence

Madam Charity Gardiner, the Ahafo Regional Minister, has cautioned Junior High School graduates against associating with bad peers as they transition to Senior High Schools (SHSs).
She urged them to remain disciplined, focus on their studies, and avoid acts of indiscipline and lawlessness that could derail their education and jeopardise their future.
Madam Gardiner gave the advice at a ceremony in Bechem in the Tano South Municipality, where educational materials were presented to fresh SHS students.
The items were procured by Mr Charles Asiedu, Member of Parliament (MP) for the Tano South Constituency, for 300 students admitted to various SHSs. The items included mattresses, chop boxes, exercise books, and other learning materials.
Madam Gardiner commended Mr Asiedu for his commitment to improving education in the constituency and encouraged the students to take their studies seriously.
“You must take the opportunity to develop and realize your full potential as you entered into SHSs,” she advised the freshers.
Mr Asiedu said the gesture was intended to lessen the financial burden on families whose children and wards had gained admission to SHSs.
He advised the beneficiaries to be law-abiding, remain focused, and devote more time to their studies.
Some of the beneficiary students expressed appreciation to the MP for the support and pledged to remain disciplined, law-abiding, and committed to their academic work.

AG appeals against suspension of Republic v Hanan Aludiba & Faiza Seidu trial

The State through the Attorney General (AG) has filed an appeal at the Supreme Court challenging the suspension of the trial in the case of The Republic v Hanan Aludiba and Faiza Seidu.
On Monday, the Court of Appeal suspended the trial in the case. But the prosecution says it has filed an appeal against the suspension order.
According to the update, the law does not allow a criminal trial to be suspended simply because an accused person has complained about some of the charges on the charge sheet, particularly when those complaints were dismissed as meritless.
It argues that if the Court of Appeal’s decision is allowed to stand, no prosecution will ever be possible, since all it would take for a trial to be suspended is an accused person complaining about anything on the charge sheet.
