President Mahama expresses gratitude to Organised Labour over fruitful wage negotiations

President John Dramani Mahama has conveyed his sincere gratitude and appreciation to Organised Labour for their understanding and cooperation in reaching agreement
on the minimum wage and base pay.
The President assured Organised Labour of his commitment to work closely with them in the
effort to resuscitate the economy and matters relating to the welfare of Ghanaian workers.
The President also reiterates his commitment to prudence in the management of public finances
with an emphasis on modesty and sacrifice on the part of all government officials even as work
goes into economic recovery and the alleviation hardships.

Waec releases provisional 2025 BECE results

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced that it has released the provisional results for candidates who sat for the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for School Candidates.
In a statement, WAEC said the results of school candidates will be sent to their respective schools through the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Directors of Education.
It added that candidates who wish to check their results online could do so on the Council’s official website, www.waecgh.org.
According to WAEC, a total of 603,328 candidates entered for the examination. This figure comprised 297,250 males and 306,078 females from 20,395 schools across the country.
The Council further stated that the examination was written at 2,237 centres, with 2,526 candidates absent.
It also noted that the total number included 72 visually impaired candidates, 239 with hearing impairment and 161 others with special assessment needs.
On examination malpractice, WAEC explained that investigations into various irregularities had been completed.
The Council indicated that the subject results of 718 candidates had been cancelled, while the entire results of 177 candidates had also been cancelled.
In addition, subject results of 1,240 candidates were withheld, and the entire results of 93 candidates were withheld as well.
The statement further revealed that subject results of candidates from 119 schools had been cancelled, while results from 87 schools were withheld for further scrutiny.
WAEC added that the withheld results may either be released or cancelled depending on the outcome of ongoing investigations by September 6, 2025.
The Council advised candidates whose results had been cancelled or withheld to visit https://irreg.waec.org or click the withheld/cancelled button on the WAEC homepage for details.
It explained that the page would provide reasons for the cancellation or withholding of results and, in the case of withheld results, give guidance on the next steps.
WAEC cautioned the public against fraudsters who promise to upgrade results for a fee.
It stressed that the Council’s results were secured and could be verified.
In its conclusion, WAEC expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Education, the Ghana Education Service, security agencies, heads of schools, supervisors, invigilators, examiners and all stakeholders for their support in the successful conduct of the 2025 BECE.

First-year SHS students to report on October 18, 2025 – GES

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced that first-year students in senior high schools will officially report to school on October 18, 2025, to begin the 2025/2026 academic year.
According to a circular from the Service, the date applies to both single-track and transitional schools.
GES explained that the full academic calendar has been shared with all regional and school heads to ensure a smooth and uniform reopening process across the country.
The letter, signed by the director of schools and instructions division, Prince C. Agyemang-Duah, urged regional directors to circulate the calendar to heads of institutions and provide the necessary monitoring and support to ensure effective teaching and learning.
Aside from the reopening date, the calendar outlines important term schedules, breaks, and examination periods, including the 2026 WASSCE, which will run from April 20 to June 20, 2026.
The academic calendar shows that schools will go on a Christmas break from December 20, 2025, to January 4, 2026, while Easter break will fall between April 8 and April 17, 2026. Second-year students are expected to go on vacation from March 14 to May 17, 2026, while third-year students will sit for the WASSCE during the April–June period. The academic year is scheduled to officially end in September 2026.
GES indicated that the proposed start date for the 2026/2027 academic year is September 11, 2026.
The Service called for strict adherence to the dates to promote consistency in the running of schools nationwide.
