Scientists get frogs to regrow lost legs

Published

on

Scientists from Tufts and Harvard universities have successfully gotten frogs to grow back amputated legs.

For their experiment, they used aquatic frogs, the same kind you may have seen in aquariums at your local pet store.

The researchers made silicon “caps” that resemble tiny thimbles containing drugs to reduce inflammation and help grow blood vessels.

Then they amputated the frogs’ hind legs and put the caps over the wounds for 24 hours.

Over the next 18 months, many of the frogs grew new legs that were fully functional and almost as good as the originals.

The biggest thing the new legs lacked were bones in the toes. – ndtv.com

“Okay, then prove it. There’s a clock over there. Can you tell the time?”

“Of course I can!” says the man.
