Ghana marks 68th Indece anniversary
Ghana on Thursday marked her 68th Independence Day celebration at the Jubilee House with a smaller size parade of security services and school children in attendance.
Despite the reduction in the number of participants in government’s bid to control expenditure, the ceremony did not lack the thrill and excitement that characterise it.
It was on the themed ‘Reflect, Review, Reset.’
It will no doubt go in the annals of the celebration as the smallest but attracted a number of heavyweights including former presidents, John Agyekum Kufour and Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo, Ministers of State, clergy, service personnel and a few school children.
Guests were treated by impressive performances from the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) mass band, delivering sumptuous patriotic songs.
The school children were not left out. They kept guest spellbound with stunning cultural performances spiced by poetry recitals and song ministration from the Tema Senior High School choir.
Marking nearly seven decades since the country gained freedom from British colonial rule, President of the Republic, Mr John Dramani Mahama called for unity and resilience as the nation navigates its economic recovery.
He also highlighted the importance of fiscal prudence in the light of the ongoing economic challenges.
“As Ghanaians come together to commemorate this historic day, they are reminded of the sacrifices made by their forefathers, led by Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, who declared the country ‘free forever’ on March 6, 1957.
“The spirit of independence, forged in the struggles of the past, continues to inspire the nation as it navigates the challenges of the present and looks forward to a prosperous future,” he explained.
Also in attendance was the Vice President of the Republic, Prof. Nana Jane Opoku- Agyeman and other high profile guests.

The Police have arrested two suspects, including the alleged gang leader, in connection with the robbery attack on the Berekum Chelsea football team that resulted in the death of one of the players.
According to a Police update, the arrests were made after intelligence-led operations by security personnel.
One of the suspects sustained gunshot wounds during an exchange of fire with the police.
He has since been taken to a hospital where he is receiving medical treatment, while the other suspect remains in police custody assisting with investigations.
The Police indicated that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the gang linked to the attack.
They assured the public that more details will be provided as investigations progress.

President John Dramani Mahama has arrived in Brazzaville to attend the investiture ceremony of Denis Sassou N’Guesso.
The ceremony follows the re-election of President Sassou N’Guesso for another five year term as leader of the Republic of the Congo.
President Mahama travelled to Brazzaville shortly after launching his Free Primary Healthcare Programme in Dodowa.
He is expected to return to Accra after the ceremony scheduled for Thursday morning.
