Ak Songstress switches from dancehall with “Hallelujah”?
Female dancehall heavyweight, Akosua Kwakye, known in showbiz circles as AK Songstress has released a new song dubbed “Hallelujah” for the year.
The song, which according her is a praise to God is a switch from the usual dancehall she is known for.
The new song produced by Abochi is a medley of some known gospel songs.
AK Songstress told The Spectator that she would be releasing songs with such groove as Hallejujah, and this did not mean that she has drifted from the dancehall music.
According to her, she felt people could easily relate to this new style, “though people love dancehall, some do not easily understand the hardcore patois, I am trying to do songs which people can easily sing along,” she added.
Touching on the message in the new song, AK Songstress said, “The message is simple, the concept is to proclaim the goodness of God, who is merciful and not discriminatory.”
She further added that due to COVID-19, she held back on her dream of releasing an album last year, “for now, I will continue to release singles until the health situation changes for normal life to bounce back.”

MAAME TIWAA, the celebrated backing vocalist of legendary gospel group ‘Yaw Sarpong & Asomafo,’ has been reported dead after a short illness. The news of her demise broke in the early hours of Sunday, December 7, 2025.
For decades, Maame Tiwaa stood beside Yaw Sarpong as the soothing female voice of the group. She contributed to numerous gospel classics that continue to inspire believers across the country. Her vocals featured prominently on numerous gospel classics including ‘Wo Haw Ne Sen’, ‘Awurade Ka Me Ho’, ‘Yen Fa Oye Nkoaa’, and ‘Mensuro’. These songs became staples in Christian homes and churches across Ghana, with many believers drawing spiritual upliftment from her performances. Her voice helped establish the Asomafo sound as one of the most influential gospel collectives in the country.
Her last known performances was her tribute to Yaw Sarpong at this year’s TGMA night and at her son’s wedding. In recent months, Maame Tiwa had been actively caring for Yaw Sarpong during his health struggles.
