SHS graduate producing and hawking popcorn

Meet Mr Nehemiah Laryea, a Senior High School (SHS) graduate who has been hawking popcorn, as his profession since December, 2018.
Mr Laryea, who makes the popcorn himself, said lack of employment avenues drove him into this business to enable him to make a living.
Mt Laryea, who is a staunch Pentecostal at Akotoshie NO.2, plies his trade within surrounding villages like Ahiabukorpe, Nsumia, Papase, Adjen, Kotoku, Gortekope, Gakorpe, Ewukorpe, and Chito.
He said, his daily sales ranged between GH¢80-GH¢120, depending on a good day.
The Spectator congratulates him for his hard work, and urge others not to sit idle but do something to keep them going.

Brigadier General Michael Opoku not under arrest – GAF confirms

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has denied reports claiming that Brigadier General Michael Opoku has been arrested by security operatives for possessing ammunition.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, and signed by Captain V.A. Arhin, Acting Director General of Public Relations, GAF said enquiries from various security agencies and national investigation authorities had not confirmed the alleged arrest.
The statement explained that Brigadier General Michael Opoku remains an active member of the Ghana Armed Forces and is not under arrest for any crime.
GAF further assured the public that any military officer found to have committed a crime would face the same legal procedures as any other citizen.
It added that the report of his arrest was false and should be ignored, urging the public to desist from spreading misinformation and disinformation.

Police confirm arrest of two suspects in Asankrangwa murder case

The Western Central Regional Police Command has confirmed the arrest of two men in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 20-year-old man at the Asankrangwa Education Area on Sunday, August 17, 2025.
In a statement signed by the Head of the Public Affairs Unit, ASP Beatrice Turkson, the police said preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased was chased and stabbed multiple times by a group of people.
The incident is believed to have stemmed from a misunderstanding between the deceased and one of the suspects, identified as 36-year-old Kwasi Opong.
According to the police, swift action led to the arrest of Opong and another suspect, 23-year-old William Francis Osei. Both are currently in custody assisting with investigations, while efforts are underway to apprehend another suspect who is still on the run.
The police noted that the body of the deceased has been deposited at the Asankrangwa Catholic Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.
“The Command assures the public that all persons connected to this heinous crime will be brought to justice,” the statement said.
The police appealed to the public to provide any information that could assist in the ongoing investigations.
