Dr.Louisa Satekla named Global Ambassador for World ORAL Health Day 2025

The FDI World Dental Federation has announced Dr. Louisa Ansong-Satekla, Ghana’s celebrated dental surgeon and public health advocate, as its Global Ambassador for an unprecedented fourth consecutive year, ahead of the 2025 World Oral Health Day (WOHD) campaign.
The 2025 campaign, rallying under the slogan “A Happy Mouth is a Happy Mind”, aims to spotlight the profound connection between oral health and overall well-being, urging global audiences to prioritize self-care through proactive dental hygiene.
Dr. Ansong-Satekla, a renowned dental surgeon and public health practitioner, will lead efforts to amplify this year’s message that oral health is foundational to mental resilience and physical vitality.
“Caring for your mouth isn’t just about a bright smile—it’s about nurturing your confidence, reducing stress, and safeguarding your body from systemic diseases,” she emphasized.
According to her, “Every brush, floss, and dental check-up is an act of self-love that benefits your entire being.”
Dr. Ansong-Satekla will spearhead initiatives targeting underserved populations, reinforcing FDI’s mission to bridge global oral health disparities, including educational programmes, interactive community events, and social media engagement to spread accessible oral health practices.
“We are excited to continue this journey with Dr Louisa, whose expertise and enthusiasm have been pivotal in shaping our campaign,” said FDI World Dental Federation.
They noted “With #WOHD25, we’re not just promoting oral hygiene—we’re sparking a global movement that highlights the profound connection between a healthy mouth and a healthy mind.”
Based in Ghana, Dr. Ansong-Satekla lead practitioner of Charisma Dental Clinic, a hub for advanced dental care and public health education.
Her innovative outreach programs, including media campaigns and grassroots workshops, have positioned her as a leading Dental Surgeon in Ghana’s healthcare industry.
Her accolades include the 2021 Ghana Outstanding Women Awards (GOWA), Pulse Health Influencer of the Year, and Health Personality of the Year at the 2022 Women’s Choice Awards Africa.
FDI praised her “dedication to merging clinical excellence with public advocacy,” noting her role in inspiring both peers and communities to prioritize preventive care.
She is currently the Ambassador of Verna Mineral Water and GC Brand.

8 suspects in Ablekuma North violence charged – Police announces

The Accra Regional Police Command has announced that eight people have been charged in connection with violent incidents during the Ablekuma North Parliamentary re-run held on July 11, 2025.
In a press release issued on Tuesday, the Police said the suspects were arraigned before the Circuit Court in Accra.
The statement identified them as Mohammed Abubakari, 32, a private security officer; Tijani Mahamudu, 38, a driver; Prince Dzakpasu, 39, a businessman; Anas Mohammed, 42, an estate developer; Mohammed Hamda, 35, a mechanic; Darko Otibu Samuel, 33, a businessman; Musah Muntari, 46, a station manager; and Ali Saeed, also known as Bomba, 43, a businessman.
The statement indicated that all eight suspects pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit crime, to wit assault, and assault, contrary to Sections 23(1) and 84 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).
The Police added that the case had been adjourned to August 29, 2025, and that each accused person had been granted bail in the sum of GH₵80,000 with one surety.
According to the Police, the command remains committed to ensuring justice while maintaining peace and order.

Kwabena Agyepong files nomination ahead of primaries

Kwabena Agyepong has officially filed his nomination to contest for the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), becoming the first candidate to do so ahead of the party’s upcoming primaries.
Following the successful filling, Mr. Agyepong told party supporters that his vision was to build a Ghana that is “economically robust, fiscally responsible, socially cohesive, and fully accountable to its people.”
He said the country faces urgent challenges, including high unemployment, illegal mining, poor sanitation, chaotic city planning, and court congestion due to land disputes.
He warned about growing political polarization and the demoralization of young Ghanaians.
Mr. Agyepong stressed the need to restore the party and national values of service, sacrifice, and selflessness.
He called for leaders who can take tough decisions and provide real solutions for the nation.
The NPP leadership race will determine the party’s flagbearer for the next general elections, with Ing. Kwabena Agyepong’s nomination marking the official start of the contest.
