We have not registered any body enlargement product- FDA cautions celebs over social media advertisement

The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has cautioned celebrities to desist from advertising body enlargement products on social media.

According to the FDA, they have not approved any body enlargement product, which would further warrant an advertisement on any platform.

Speaking to The Spectator, the Head of Communications, Mr.James Lartey, said celebrities should demand FDA approval documents from people who approached them to advertise their products on any platform.

Responding to recent development of celebrities advertising body enlargement products on their social media platforms, Mr Lartey added “in the first place, FDA has not registered any buttocks, penis, or breast enlargement product.”

Against this backdrop, he cautioned them to desist from advertising them, because it was contrary to Public Health Act 2012 (Act 851), which enforces standards for the sale of food, drugs, food supplements, herbal and homeopathic medicines, veterinary medicines, cosmetics, medical devices, household chemical substances, tobacco and tobacco products.

According to him, anyone seen selling or advertising any product which has not been approved by the FDA is perpetrating an illegality, and should stop immediately.

He further advised celebrities who are approached for advertisement to demand FDA approval notice of the product, and further request for a letter approving the advert, after the text of the commercial had been vetted.

“If anyone approaches you to advertise a product, demand for the approval document, that alone does not automatically guarantee you to advertise the product, further demand for a letter approving the advert, before you go ahead,” he said.

Mr Lartey said, the FDA has a mandate to ensure the safety of the public, and for that matter, everyone needed to collaborate with them to save lives.

Medikal urges Ghanaian musicians to prioritise financial security

Published

Ghanaian rapper Medikal has advised musicians to focus on building financial security rather than relying mainly on awards, shows and public recognition.

According to him, the difficult situations some senior musicians face after years in the industry should serve as a lesson to younger artistes.

Medikal made the comments on TikTok while sharing his thoughts on an interview involving veteran Ghanaian musician DJ Barosky, whom he claimed is currently homeless in the United Kingdom.

He expressed surprise at the situation, noting that he grew up listening to and admiring some of the senior musicians who influenced his generation.

“Bro, right now, social media, I know if you tell which one be real or what be fake,” Medikal stated, questioning the reality of what people see online.

He argued that musicians should make money and put proper financial plans in place while they are active in the industry.

“If you be artist for this country, you for make money, collect money, put certain things in place,” he said.

Medikal stressed that awards and performances were important but should not replace financial planning.

He encouraged artistes to be careful with their relationships and to understand that the entertainment industry is largely driven by money.

According to him, even friendships can change when a person’s financial circumstances change.

He therefore urged musicians not to become discouraged by financial losses but to remain focused on creating wealth.

“Make money. If you lose money, still collect money,” he advised.

Medikal said the experiences of older artistes should encourage current musicians to take their finances seriously and prepare for life beyond their peak years in the entertainment industry.
