Between one and three percent of men are diagnosed with breast cancer in Ghana annually, Dr Beatrice Wiafe-Addai, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Peace and Love Hospital has disclosed.
Dr Wiafe- Addai, also the Founder of Breast Care International (BCI), said this was as a result of mortality rates which varied according to the stage at presentation, adding that 60-70 percent of men with breast cancer reported at the hospital late and come in with late stage disease and due to this close to 50 percent died.
Dr Wiafe- Addai made this known in an interview with The Spectatorahead of her health walk which takes place on October 1, 2022 at Tepa in the Ashanti Region.
She explained that stages 0, 1, 2 were the early stages and could be cured easily when detected early.
“The stages 3 and 4 were the last stages and organs spread to the target organs such as the liver, brains, lungs and bones leading to the death”
“Men normally do not have breast so we advise them to be vigilant and slide soapy hands on their chest when bathing to examine whether they have lumps or not” she said.
Dr Wiafe- Addai said there was no cause of breast cancer in men but a risk factor including age and family history could increases a person’s chances of getting cancer.
“Men do not stand high chances of getting breast cancer unlike women but there is the need for men to go for screening yearly or do self-examination” she added.
She advised both male and female to do self-examination or go for routine checkup early because it was curable especially at it early stage.
Breast Care International (BCI) Ghana will organise a health walk on October 1, at Tepa in the Ashanti region for the 10th year in a row for a cure for breast cancer.
Themed “Brest Cancer Won’t Rest, So Why Should We?” is expected to record a number of health-conscious people walking to raise awareness about breast cancer while celebrating survivors.

Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has announced that the government has accepted the recommendation to abolish the death penalty and replace it with life imprisonment as part of the constitutional review process.
He said the proposed amendment would affect Articles 3, 13, 19 and 72 of the 1992 Constitution, with offences that previously attracted the death penalty instead carrying life imprisonment.
Dr. Ayine made the announcement on July 30, 2026, at the Jubilee House in Accra during the Government Accountability Series while outlining the government’s position on the final recommendations of the Constitution Review Committee.
According to him, the government believes the death penalty is inconsistent with the constitutional right to life and Ghana’s international human rights obligations.
He explained that the recommendation forms part of broader proposals aimed at strengthening the protection of fundamental human rights under the Constitution.
Dr. Ayine said the government had also accepted the spirit of several recommendations to expand rights relating to women, children, persons with disabilities, older persons and the youth.
He added that a comprehensive Human Rights Act would be introduced to protect these rights and provide detailed enforcement mechanisms instead of amending the entrenched provisions of the Constitution through a national referendum.

Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has called on both local and international investors to tap into opportunities in Ghana’s tourism, hospitality and creative industries.
Speaking in an interview yesterday with World Media USA Today, the Minister said government is committed to creating a conducive investment environment to support growth in the sector.
She highlighted key investment areas including hotels, fashion, music, film production, and tourism infrastructure.
Dzifa Gomashie also encouraged Ghanaians to invest in domestic tourism to help boost the local economy.
According to her, strategic investment in tourism and the creative economy will drive economic transformation, create jobs, and position Ghana as Africa’s gateway for heritage, culture, business and investment.
“Ghana has vast opportunities across tourism, hospitality and the creative industries. We are ready and open for business,” she stated.
The Minister’s remarks come as government intensifies efforts to leverage culture and tourism as drivers of economic growth and job creation.
