VGMA23: Who wins the ultimate tonight?

Ghana’s biggest music night is today as musicians who have excelled in the year under review patiently await the verdict following the votes cast by the board, academy and general public.

This year would be the 23rd year since the inception of the scheme which ensured those doing excellent job were patted on the back for their creditable performance in the industry.

Clearly, like previous events, and what happened yesterday at the industry awards, there would be disappointments, surprises, thrills and glamour tonight at the Grand Arena at the Accra International Conference Centre.

The ultimate category for the night, Artiste of The Year, would be fiercely contested as Kuami Eugene, Sarkodie, KiDi, Black Sherif, King Promise and Joe Mettle compete for the crown.

Gospel Artiste of The Year would be a friendly competition for Empress Gifty, Ohemaa Mercy, Joe Mettle, Celestine Donkor, Obaapa Christy, Diana Hamilton, Akese Brempong and MOG Music.

There would be contention in search of the one who has carved a niche for himself as the man with punchy bars, thus, the Best Rap Performance category as Lyrical Joe – 5Th August, Strongman – Last Verse, Obibini – Wudini, Teephlow – WonteAse3, Sarkodie – Rollies And Cigarsand Amerado – The Thronelock horns to prove their mettle.

The Vodafone Most Popular Song of The Year would be an unforgettable battle among, King Promise – Slow Down, Ohemaa Mercy ft MoG Music – Ote Me Mu, Okyeame Kwame ft Kuami Eugene – Yeeko, Gyakie ft Omah Lay – Forever Remix, Darkovibes ft Davido – Je M’appelle, KiDi – Touch It, Black Sherif – Second Sermon (2nd), Kuami Eugene – Dollar On You, Joe Mettle – Ye Obuame, Fameye – Praise, Sefa – EChoke, and Mr. Drew – Mood.

Patrons will tonight experience mind blowing and thrilling live performances from the 2-day festival from KiDi, Black Sherif, Mr. Drew, Cina Soul, Ohemaa Mercy, Joe Mettle, Akwaboah, Kelvynboy, S3fa, Gyakie, Camidoh, Samini, Kofi Kinaata, Celestine Donkor, Wendy Shay, Amerado and “Surprise” acts.

In all, 33 categories will be up for grabs as artistes and music executives between January and February submitted thousands of musical works, which the board deliberated and produced nominees list.
