Tsatsu Tsikata cancels 50th anniversary event following tragic helicopter crash

Renowned legal practitioner Tsatsu Tsikata has cancelled a planned three-day celebration to mark his 50 years of legal practice following the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of two Ministers of State and six others.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, August 6, Mr. Tsikata said the event, which was scheduled to honour his legal journey, has been called off due to the national tragedy.
“Following the tragic news of a helicopter crash that has sadly taken the lives of the two Ministers of State and six others, the three-day event to celebrate fifty years of my legal practice is cancelled,” the statement read.
Mr. Tsikata, a barrister and solicitor at Fugar and Company, expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended condolences to the bereaved families.
“We are overwhelmed with grief, and our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the deceased,” he added.
The helicopter crash has left the nation in mourning, as Ghanaians come to terms with the loss of key government officials and others on board.
Mr. Tsikata is widely regarded as one of Ghana’s most accomplished legal minds, with a career spanning five decades.

President Mahama in Nairobi for the Africa Forward Summit

The President of the Republic of Ghana and African Union (AU) Champion for African Financial Institutions, John Dramani Mahama has arrived in Nairobi, Kenya, to participate in the Africa Forward Summit, a high-level France-Africa partnership meeting.
The Summit organised by French President Emmanuel Macron has brought together African Heads of State, global business leaders, and international partners to foster collaboration on sustainable development and economic resilience.
President Mahama will join a high-level discussion on Green Industrialisation and Energy Transition tomorrow morning, Tuesday. The session aims to chart a path for Africa’s industrial growth while addressing the global climate crisis.
Reflecting his strategic role as the AU Champion for African Financial Institutions, President Mahama will later in the day participate in a working lunch centred on the Reform of the International Financial Architecture. The discussion will specifically focus on improving African countries’ access to sustainable financing and on ensuring that the global financial system is more equitable and responsive to the continent’s unique needs.
In addition to his economic engagements, President Mahama, who is leading the Accra Reset Initiative, will also co-chair a Round Table on Health, “Rethinking global health and building resilient national health systems”
On the sidelines of the Summit, President Mahama is scheduled to hold several high-profile bilateral meetings. These include talks with H.E. António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations; Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF); and Alvaro Lario, President of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).
These meetings will focus on global cooperation, economic stability, and food security in Ghana and Africa.
President Mahama is expected to leave Nairobi in the evening of Tuesday and return to Accra.

Suhum MCE honours widows and mothers with special outreach for Mother’s Day

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Suhum, Lydia Ohenewaa, led a heartfelt outreach program yesterday to celebrate Mother’s Day, honoring the resilience and contributions of widows and mothers within the municipality.
The event, centered on the themes of love and dignity, aimed to recognize the pivotal role women play in nation-building and the upbringing of future leaders.
During the celebration, the MCE distributed essential items to beneficiaries, including bags of rice, eggs, textiles, and various souvenirs, intended as practical support for their households.
Speaking during the presentation, the MCE emphasised that the initiative was a gesture of gratitude for the continuous sacrifices made by mothers and widows.
Lydia Ohenewaa noted that their strength remains the foundation of the Suhum community.
The atmosphere at the gathering was marked by music and joy, providing a platform for public recognition of women who often serve as the unsung backbones of their families.
Participants expressed deep appreciation for the gifts, describing them as a timely intervention that reflects compassion and unity within the district.
The outreach concluded with a message of solidarity to all women in the municipality, reinforcing the assembly’s commitment to supporting the welfare of mothers and the vulnerable in Suhum.
The event was attended by some distinguished guests including, the Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Akosua Awatey, Deputy Women Organizer for the NDC, Dzifa Tegah, Deputy C.E.O of MASLOC, Mad. Khalida Seidu, and Suhum Queen Mother, Nana Arko Bensua.
