New executive for NTC Local Union sworn-in

MR Henry Atakey, the Principal Industrial Relations Officer of the Industrial and Commercial Workers Union (ICU- Ghana), has on behalf of the General Secretary, Mr Morgan Ayawine, sworn in a new eight-member executive of the Local Union of the New Times Corporation (NTC).
The new executive is chaired by Mr Roland Wotordzor, and ably assisted by Anthony Marshack (Vice Chairman), Mr Vincent Owusu Sarpong (Secretary) and Mr Ebenezer Addai (Assistant Secretary). The rest are Mr John Mensah (First Trustee), Mr Kenneth Amfoh Mensah (Second Trustee), Mr Eric Cobbinah (Executive Member) and Mr David Tetteh (Youth Representative).
After administering the oath of office, Mr Atakey urged the new executive members to handle membership dues of the union wisely. He further advised them to be humble and continue to work hand in hand with the Interim Management Committee (IMC) of the corporation for the wellbeing of workers.
In his acceptance speech, the Chairman for the Local Union, Roland Wotordzor, thanked the outgoing chairman and colleagues for being a good mentor to them.
“I, therefore, urge all members to put aside their differences and let’s work together because we have a lot ahead of us,” he added.
The outgoing Local Union Chairman, Mr Cephas Aveh, emphasised the need for unity and eschew backbiting, gossips and other negative attitudes. According to him, these negative attitudes could harm the union.
The Chairman for the Professional and Managerial Staff Union (PMSU), Mr Andrew Parker, said the new mandate was a significant step in strengthening leadership and advancing the organisation’s vision. He urged them to continue to do their best and serve the workers effortlessly.
The Editor of The Spectator, Mrs Georgina Naa –Marku Quaittoo, called for a peaceful working environment between management staff, and congratulated the new executive on their election.
Mrs Agnes Nketia, the Human Resource Manager of NTC urged the new executive to leave a good legacy when their tenure of office comes to an end and make a positive impact on the corporation.
Also present at the swearing-in ceremony was the Acting Editor of The Ghanaian Times, Mr David Adadevoh, Supervisor- Advert, Sales and Business Relations, Mrs Edzodzi Can-Tamakloe, the Acting Chief Accountant, Mr Eric Nkum, Acting Internal Auditor, Ismaila Attual and some members of the PMSU.

A1Bread engages NTC staff in ‘Share Happiness’ campaign

THE A1 Bread Factory last Thursday held a breakfast engagement with staff of the New Times Corporation (NTC) as part of the company’s ‘Share Happiness’ community outreach.
Close to 60 members of staff enjoyed the breakfast package of special loaves with fillers and with cocoa drinks.
“For us, it is a moment to give back to the people and build goodwill,” says Mr Isaac Dazie, Head of Sales IN in an interview with The Spectator.
“Through such activations, we hope to reach out to a lot more people and in the process strengthen our bonds with the communities around,” he said.
Mr Dazie said A1 Bread provides corporate breakfast orders and hope that such activities would lead to full partnerships in future.
He encouraged staff of NTC to patronise the brand, noting that the company planned to keep supporting communities in similar ways.
Mrs Georgina Naa-Marku Quaittoo thanked the team on behalf of staff and Management for this guesture.

HIV does not define a person —Atidzah
MR Samuel Yao Atidzah, the Executive Director of GOSANET Foundation, has stated that HIV does not define a person, but “dignity, respect and love do.”
He reminded Ghanaians that no one should face discrimination because of his or her HIV status.
Mr Atidzah said this in a statement in Ho of the Volta Region to commemorate World Zero Discrimination Day.
The Day was initiated by UNAIDS in 2014 and celebrated annually on March 1 by the UN and other Organisations to promote equality, inclusion, and peace for everyone regardless of age, gender, race, or sexual orientation.
It highlights the need to end discrimination laws and actions, particularly regarding HIV/AIDS stigma.
This year’s day is on the theme: ‘People first: Standing united for dignity, equality and inclusion.’
Mr Atidzah urged all to stand together to end stigma and discrimination and promote inclusion, support People Living with AIDS in their communities.
“We have often been quick in judging people just because he or she has contracted the HIV virus; we’re in a haste to brand them as people lacking dignity.”
“We must also not lose sight of the fact that it is not every patient that attract the disease from sexual inter-course. There are those that were born with it and those who were cut by affected by objects,” he explained.
He advised all to know their status through HIV Self-testing kits, adding “it is private, confidential, safe and empowering.”
The Executive Director urged both young and old that taking charge of their health was a sign of strength and not shame.
“I urge all and sundry to get tested now, know your status, protect yourself and protect others,” he noted. –GNA
