GNFS honours ACFO II Anthony Mawuko after 37 years of distinguished service

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) held a farewell ceremony in honour of Assistant Chief Fire Officer II (ACFO II) Semey Anthony Mawuko, marking his retirement after 37 years of exemplary service to the nation.
The ceremony, attended by senior management members, led by Chief Fire Officer (CFO) Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sapong, celebrated ACFO II Mawukoโs outstanding career, defined by professionalism, leadership and technical excellence.
Tributes highlighted his significant contributions to maintenance, transport management and technical services, which greatly strengthened the operational efficiency of the Service.
ACFO II Semey Anthony Mawuko joined the Service on February 2, 1989, and steadily rose through the ranks through hard work, professionalism and dedication to occupy several strategic positions, including Logistics Officer, Municipal Fire Commander for Ashaiman, Assistant Director of Services, and ultimately Assistant Director of Maintenance at National Headquarters before his retirement. His career also featured international exposure through technical inspections and professional development programmes in Poland and the United States.
Beyond his administrative responsibilities, he distinguished himself as a mentor and trainer, spearheading initiatives in emergency driving, driver assessment and specialised firefighting equipment training.
His legacy was widely described as one of integrity, dedication and capacity building.
In his farewell remarks, ACFO II Mawuko expressed appreciation to management and colleagues for their support throughout his career and pledged to continue serving as an ambassador of the Service in retirement.
Management extended its best wishes, commending his loyalty and dedication while wishing him good health, fulfilment and success in the next chapter of his life.
The ceremony reflects the GNFSโs enduring tradition of recognising officers who have served with distinction and contributed meaningfully to national fire safety and emergency response.

NDC renames Headquarters as ‘Jerry John Rawlings House’

The National Democratic Congress has officially renamed its national headquarters the โJerry John Rawlings Houseโ to honour its founder and former President, Jerry John Rawlings.
The ceremony took place on Monday, June 22, 2026, as part of activities marking what would have been Rawlingsโ 79th birthday.
Held under the theme โFrom Revolution to Fourth Republic: The Rawlings Legacy,โ the event brought together party members and senior government officials to celebrate his life, leadership, and role in shaping Ghanaโs democracy.
President John Dramani Mahama unveiled a commemorative plaque and a bust of the late statesman at the newly named building.
He said the renaming is a tribute to Rawlingsโ immense contribution to the NDC and the nation.
โHistory matters because it teaches people where they came from and inspires the future,โ Mahama said.
He described the ceremony as a significant act of institutional memory that ensures future generations understand the sacrifices made to build the party and protect Ghanaโs democracy.
Kimathi Rawlings, son of the late President, expressed the familyโs gratitude.
โThe naming of this headquarters after our dad, Jerry John Rawlings, is far more than a symbolic gesture,โ he said.
He called it a fitting tribute to Rawlingsโ legacy, values, and sacrifices that continue to influence Ghanaโs politics.
The event ended with a cake-cutting to mark Rawlingsโ birthday.
Rawlings, who died in November 2020, first led Ghana as a military ruler, then guided the transition to constitutional rule and served as the countryโs first President under the Fourth Republic from 1993 to 2001. He remains one of the most influential figures in Ghanaโs modern history.

The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has arrested five students of the Central University during a targeted operation on campus over the sale and distribution of cannabis and cannabis-infused products.
The suspects, who are in Level 100, 300, and 400 were picked up following intelligence gathered on illicit drug activities within the university community during their Hall week celebration.
According to NACOC, preliminary investigations revealed the students were engaged in the production and sale of cannabis-infused ice cream, sobolo, toffees, pepper, and eggs, while also dealing in raw cannabis on campus.
The operation uncovered quantities of cannabis which have been seized for forensic examination as part of ongoing investigations.
NACOC noted that it is committed to combating drug-related activities in educational institutions, and students involvement in the trafficking and consumption of narcotic substances.
The suspects are currently in custody and assisting in investigations to identify any additional persons connected to cannabis infuse drug trade.
