COCOBOD CEO Pays Courtesy Call on Farihan Alhassan

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), Dr. Ransford Abbey, paid a courtesy call on Farihan Alhassan, Managing Director (MD) of GCB Bank PLC.

The visit, which took place on Thursday, February 13, 2025, was aimed at strengthening the long-standing relationship between COCOBOD and the Bank. The two institutions have collaborated over the years on various financial initiatives, particularly in supporting Ghana’s cocoa sector through structured financing and banking services.

Welcoming the COCOBOD MD, Farihan expressed appreciation for the visit and reaffirmed GCB Bank’s commitment to deepening its partnership with COCOBOD.

 He also highlighted the Bank’s dedication to providing tailored financial solutions that support the cocoa industry and contribute to Ghana’s economic growth.

Dr. Abbey congratulated Mr. Alhassan on his appointment and commended GCB Bank for its continued support of the cocoa sector.

He emphasized the importance of collaboration between financial institutions and agribusiness stakeholders in ensuring the sustainability and profitability of Ghana’s cocoa industry.

The meeting provided an opportunity for discussions on potential areas of collaboration, including enhanced financial support for cocoa farmers, supply chain financing, and innovative banking solutions tailored for the agricultural sector.

Both leaders expressed optimism about the future of their partnership and pledged to work closely to advance mutual interests that will benefit Ghana’s economy.

Two arrested over robbery attack on Berekum Chelsea team

The Police have arrested two suspects, including the alleged gang leader, in connection with the robbery attack on the Berekum Chelsea football team that resulted in the death of one of the players.

According to a Police update, the arrests were made after intelligence-led operations by security personnel.

One of the suspects sustained gunshot wounds during an exchange of fire with the police.

He has since been taken to a hospital where he is receiving medical treatment, while the other suspect remains in police custody assisting with investigations.

The Police indicated that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the gang linked to the attack.

They assured the public that more details will be provided as investigations progress.

Mahama arrives in Brazzaville for Congo president’s investiture

President John Dramani Mahama has arrived in Brazzaville to attend the investiture ceremony of Denis Sassou N’Guesso.

The ceremony follows the re-election of President Sassou N’Guesso for another five year term as leader of the Republic of the Congo.

President Mahama travelled to Brazzaville shortly after launching his Free Primary Healthcare Programme in Dodowa.

He is expected to return to Accra after the ceremony scheduled for Thursday morning.
