About 200 residents of Trekume in the Anloga District of the Volta Region were beneficiaries of a health screening and community outreach extended to them recently by the Amanda Foundation, a non-governmental organisation.
Adults were screened of Hepatitis B, Malaria and Hypertension while children were given Polio vaccines with the assistance of volunteers and nurses in the community.
The foundation again presented assorted items including stationery and 200 packs of cooked food donated by Mr Elijah Amoo Addo, Co-founder of Food for all Africa.
Dr Amanda Nhyirah Biyeh, the convener, said the outreach formed part of the foundation’s commitment to support the less privileged in identified areas.
She said members of the community had many health needs in addition to the lack of basic social amenities hence the decision to offer a helping hand.
“The village has a health facility but it lacks a lot of equipment. The place is in bad shape and people do not visit the facility regularly. Some girls aged between 15 and 16 are mothers while some of the pupils lack basic ICT and technology skills,” she observed.
Dr Amanda, who led the health screening, educated the community members on mental health and encouraged them to live healthy lifestyles and seek prompt medical treatment for illnesses.
Commending partners of the outreach including Mr Ramsey Prince Benson, the Youth Member of Parliament of the area, she indicated that the foundation would continue to “restore hope through charity,” and execute other projects to bring development to the locality.
Community members represented by Mr Felix Yao Sekle praised the gesture and appealed for the construction of an ICT laboratory and provision of other basic social services and infrastructure.

Christians have been urged to demonstrate a living faith in Jesus Christ by allowing their confession of Him as Lord and Saviour to reflect in their daily lives.
According to the Kaneshie District Pastor of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana (EPCG), Rev. Dzidzor Nathaniel Affram, a genuine Christian’s confession should go beyond words and be demonstrated through obedience to God, love for others and service to the Church.
He made the call at the 40th anniversary remembrance service for the late Wesley Kwasi Kwadzo at the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana, Maranatha Congregation at Awudome Avenui in the Volta Region.
Speaking on the theme, “The Church Built on a Living Confession,” Rev. Affram said life would continually present challenges capable of testing Christians’ faith, making it necessary for believers to hold firmly to their confession that Jesus Christ is Lord.
He explained that accepting Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour required Christians to live according to His teachings, stressing that their faith must be evident in their conduct.
“A living confession listens to God and not man,” he said, urging Christians to remain obedient to God even when faced with difficulties and pressures.
Rev. Affram further encouraged the congregation to care for vulnerable people and demonstrate concern for others, adding that such acts were practical expressions of Christian faith.
He also urged Christians to identify and use their God-given gifts to build the Church.
He said every member of the Church had a role to play and cautioned Christians against looking down on others because of their status or abilities.
The remembrance service brought together family members, friends, members of the congregation and sympathisers to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the late Wesley Kwasi Kwadzo.
