Mothers’ Union donates food items to Street Academy

The Diocesan Mothers’ Union of the Anglican Diocese of Accra on Wednesday presented food items and essential provisions valued at GH₵ 10,102 to the Street Academy in Accra.
The presentation formed part of activities marking the 150th global anniversary celebration of the Mothers’ Union and coincided with the birthday of the founder and Executive Director of the Street Academy, Dr Ataa Lartey.
The items included 125 kilograms (kg) of rice, 125 kg of maize, 25 kg of beans, 20 American tins of garri, 20 liters of cooking oil, 10 liters of palm oil, two cartons of mackerel, and two boxes of tomato paste.
The rest were three boxes of oats, two boxes of nondairy milk, three boxes of spaghetti, five American tins of sugar, 19 packs of Bigoo soft drinks, 20 bags of sachet water, and two boxes of biscuits.
Addressing the children during the ceremony, Mrs Wilhemina Graves, Assistant President of the Mothers’ Union, Anglican Diocese of Accra, urged the beneficiaries to embrace the love of God, learn to share, maintain hope, and respect their elders.
She emphasised the importance of good health and personal hygiene, encouraging the children to keep their bodies and surroundings clean at all times.
Mrs Graves stated that the donation aligned with the Union’s core mission of building communities, strengthening families, and transforming lives, drawing inspiration from its founder, Mary Sumner, who dedicated her life to the welfare of women and children.
She reaffirmed the group’s long term commitment to the institution, noting that having adopted the Street Academy, the Mothers’ Union would continue to extend support through successive generations of leadership.
The Executive Director of the Academy expressed gratitude to the Mothers’ Union for their continuous generosity and commitment to the welfare of the children.
The Street Academy provides free non formal education, meals, uniforms, and learning materials to vulnerable children, street youth, young mothers, and early school dropouts aged between eight and 18 years.
Operating a three year non-graded curriculum comprising Beginners, Intermediate, and Advanced levels, the academy collaborates with the Ghana Education Service (GES) to transition an average of 18 pupils annually into formal public and low fee private schools within their local communities.

Over 20 structures built within the 50-metre buffer zone of the Kpeshie Lagoon at the Laboma Beach Resort in the La Dade-Kotopon Municipality were on Sunday demolished by the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council (GARCC).

About 120 golfers from clubs across Ghana participated in an 18-hole competition, dubbed ‘MTN 30th Anniversary CEO Invitational Golf Tournament’ held at the Achimota Golf Club on Saturday.
At the end of the hectic day, Frederick Semenu Duvor won the Men’s Group A event with 39 points, while Julienne Afi claimed the Ladies’ Group A title with the same score.
Yaw Mireku Jnr. won the Men’s Group B with an impressive 45 points, while Kous Louanges Mang took the Ladies’ Group B title with 38 points.
Kofi Mangesi won Men’s Group C with 40 points while Elorm R. Akuash Bonney claimed the Ladies’ version with 42 points.
In the Seniors Division, Jan Vogel emerged winner of the men’s category with 39 gross, while Helen Appah topped the ladies’ category with 44 gross.
Addressing participants, the company’s Board Chairman, Mr Ishmael Yamson, urged the company to approach its next phase with the same resilience, discipline and determination that have defined its success over the past three decades.
He drew a striking parallel between the game of golf and MTN Ghana’s three-decade journey, describing both as long games in which success depends less on one spectacular moment than on consistency, patience, judgment and the ability to recover from setbacks.
He said, golf had taught him a lesson that extended far beyond the fairways, thus, a round cannot be won on the first hole.
In golfing terms, he said, MTN Ghana had encountered its share of regulatory bunkers, competitive hazards and unexpected storms that had forced the company to pause, reassess and change its approach.
But those challenges, he suggested, were part of the journey rather than reasons to abandon it.
