Christian men have been challenged to move beyond the comfort of the Church and deliberately invest in the lives of young people if the next generation is to inherit a society grounded in faith, integrity and purpose.

According to the Chairperson of the Upper Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG), Rev. Roger Awudibah Wegurih, the Great Commission was not simply a passage of Scripture to be recited, but a direct command from Jesus Christ requiring believers to act, make disciples and transform the communities in which they live.

Rev. Wegurih made the call at the Thanksgiving Service to climax the 43^rd National Delegates Conference of the PCG Men’s Fellowship at the PCG Unity Congregation, Sakasaka, Tamale, on Sunday, September 13, 2026.

The conference, hosted by the Northern Presbytery, was held on the theme, “Celebrating our Heritage: Building on the foundation already laid – Men, Raising the next Generation (2 Timothy 2:2),” while Rev. Wegurih preached on the theme, “Commission for Impacting the Next Generation.”

Drawing from Matthew 28, Rev. Wegurih said Christ, having completed His earthly ministry, entrusted His disciples with the responsibility of continuing the work He had begun.

Rev. Wegurih urged the men not to allow feelings of inadequacy to silence them because the Church, he said, needed men prepared to carry Christian values such as hard work, integrity, sacrifice and perseverance into wider society and demonstrate them to younger people.

He warned against confining Christian mission to the four walls of a church building, saying the real mission fields were often found in the ordinary places where people lived and interacted.

For him, evangelism did not necessarily require a pulpit. “A testimony shared at the right moment, a prayer offered for someone in difficulty, encouragement given to a young person or simply a life characterised by Christ-like conduct could become a powerful witness.”

He particularly challenged the men to identify at least one or two young people whom they could deliberately mentor, guide and accompany in their Christian journey.

Rev. Wegurih said discipleship should not be reduced to winning theological arguments or demonstrating biblical knowledge. True discipleship, he explained, involved walking alongside another person and helping that individual learn to obey Christ in the realities of everyday life.

He consequently urged the men to identify young people who needed guidance and deliberately invest their time and experience in helping them become firmly established in Christ.

The Upper Presbytery Chairperson expressed the hope that when the Men for Missions programme was reviewed in 2026/2027, members would return with testimonies of lives changed as a result of their obedience to the Great Commission.

He also paid tribute to the pioneers of the Men for Missions movement, acknowledging the sacrifices and difficulties they had endured in establishing and strengthening the initiative. Their perseverance, he said, had created a legacy which the present generation had a responsibility to preserve.

He urged Christian men today to make a similar journey to leave their comfort zones and enter the “valleys” of an increasingly confused and changing society, particularly the spaces where young people are searching for guidance, hope and direction.
