MoGCSP rallies support for Ghana’s UNCRD nominee

The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey has reaffirmed Government’s commitment to supporting Ghana’s campaign for election onto the Expert Committee of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
The assurance was given when Ghana’s nominee to the UNCRPD Expert Committee Ms. Mawunyo Kuma Yakor-Dagbah together with officials from the disability community and key stakeholders paid a courtesy call on the Minister to discuss Ghana’s campaign strategy and the way forward ahead of the international engagement process.
The meeting brought together representatives from the Ghana Federation of Disability, the National Council on Persons with Disabilities among others.
Speaking during the engagement, Ms. Mawunyo Kuma Yakor-Dagbah expressed appreciation to the Minister and the Ministry for the support and encouragement shown towards her nomination.
She noted that the visit was intended to formally engage the Ministry on the campaign process, discuss strategic coordination and explore ways of strengthening Ghana’s bid at the international level.
She emphasised the importance of collaboration to ensure a successful campaign and eventual election onto the UNCRPD Expert Committee.
The Minister on her part congratulated Ms. Mawunyo Kuma Yakor-Dagbah on her nomination and assured the delegation of Government’s readiness to support the process through the necessary diplomatic and institutional channels.
The Minister underscored the significance of Ghana securing representation on the UNCRPD Expert Committee noting that it would further strengthen the county’s voice in global disability rights governance and reinforce ongoing national efforts towards inclusion and social protection.
Discussion during the meeting also focused on international campaign engagements, stakeholder coordination and strategies to enhance visibility and support for Ghana’s candidature ahead of the election.

Adambrobe Chieftaincy Dispute: Police arrest 11 for possession of arms

Police in the Aburi District arrested 11 suspects for alleged possession of arms and ammunition without authority in connection with the Adambrobe chieftaincy dispute, the Command revealed on Monday.
Ten suspects were arrested on Sunday, May 3, at Adambrobe, Aburi.
Police identified them as Dawu Joseph, a farmer; Kwame Aboagye, a vulcanizer; Samuel Obeng, a taxi driver in Adambrobe; Owusu Paul, a member of the Adambrobe Asekyere family; Jerry John Kwame Atilla, a businessman in Sowutuom; and private security men Evans Dekadzor, Christian Atsu, Samuel Annan, Thomas Davidson, and Richard Agyeman.
The Aburi District Command retrieved five pump-action rifles, 23 live cartridges, one taser, six phones, and one body armor during the operation.
Police also impounded two vehicles used to transport the suspects: an unregistered Ford pickup and a Toyota Corolla with registration number GE 2560-19.
An additional suspect, Douglas Amoako Danquah, was arrested Monday, May 4, after being sighted in a procession within the area, police said.
The arrests are linked to the ongoing chieftaincy dispute in Adambrobe.
Suspects are currently in police custody assisting in investigations.
The Eastern Regional Police Command assured the public of their continued commitment to maintaining peace and stability in Adambrobe and urge all parties to exercise restraint.

Gomoa to host Industrial Fair in November; Organizers expect over 2000 blobal firms

Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng, affectionately called APlus has disclosed that all is set for maiden Gomoa Industrial Fair.
In a post the Member of Parliament noted that the Gomoa Industrial Fair will be held at the Gomoa Special Economic Zone from November 27 to 29, 2026.
According to him, the fair would be the largest event of its kind in Ghana.
The three-day fair is expected to draw more than 2,000 global industries, many of which are likely to establish operations in the Gomoa Special Economic Zone after the event, according to Mr.Asare Obeng.
“Our plan is to make Ghana the Industrial Capital of West Africa in 10 years,” he stated.
APlus, further noted that the fair would surpass the scale of the Gomoa Easter Carnival, adding that registration for participants will open soon.
