GPL: Tricky ties await Kotoko, Hearts

Published

Hubert Gyau -Kotoko

High-flying Asante Kotoko will trek to the Nsenkyire Sports Arena in Samreboi tomorrow to face Samartex FC in their Ghana Premier League Matchday 11 game.

Unbeaten this season, Kotoko would hope for another good day away as they push forward to win the title this season. The Nsenkyire Sports Arena has been a favourable ground for them in recent visits, but a wounded Samartex FC, coming on the back of a 2-0 defeat to Bechem United last week, would go all out against the Porcupine Warriors.

After falling to the Porcupine Warriors in their outstanding game on Wednesday, Young Apostles return to the Wenchi Sports Stadium to face yet another tough customer in Hearts of Oak. The Phobians have been tough on the road this season and are looking to return to winning ways after the draw at the Swedru Sports Stadium last week.

Defeats in both fixtures last season have put the Young Apostles side on edge ahead of this game. Coach Abu Abdul Hanan says that although it would not be an easy game, considering Hearts’ current form, he will make sure the points stay with them.

  • The Nii Adjei Kraku II Sports Complex in Tema will host the game between Vision FC and Heart of Lions FC.

Published

The Football Association, in partnership with the Ghana Education Service in the Ayensuano District of the Eastern Region, is supporting the Ayensuano District Basic Schools Sports Festival, a three-day sporting event aimed at nurturing young talent and empowering students through sports and education.

The festival, scheduled to take place from March 9 to March 13, 2026, at Kofipare, will be held under the theme “Strengthening the Reset: Unleashing the Champion in You.”

The event is being organized in honour of Rev. Alexander Narh Amanya, the District Director of Education for Ayensuano, in recognition of his contribution to educational and youth development in the district.

The Women’s Football Development Unit of the GFA’s Technical Directorate views the festival as a significant platform to implement the Education Pillar of the GFA Women’s Football Strategy, which seeks to promote awareness, participation, and development opportunities for girls in football.

As part of the initiative, the GFA will engage female students through educational and empowerment sessions designed to introduce them to pathways in women’s football and encourage greater participation in the sport.

The Football Association will be represented by key officials who will provide mentorship and educational guidance to the participants.

Jennifer Amankwaa Sarpong, GFA Women’s Football Development Manager, will educate the girls on the Women’s Football Development Pathways, highlighting opportunities within the sport and potential career prospects.

Bernice Bempah, GFA Women’s Safeguarding Officer, will lead discussions on the GFA Safeguarding Code of Ethics, focusing on creating safe sporting environments and educating the girls on recognizing inappropriate behaviour, setting boundaries and confidently reporting concerns.

Otto Addo - Black Stars coach

The battle for supremacy in the Ghana Premier League will continue this weekend with both Medeama SC and Bibiani Gold Stars continuing their close battle for the title.

Defending champions, Bibiani Gold Stars, are breathing down heavily on the neck of the leaders Medeama SC as they aim to hunt down the Premier League leaders from the top.

Fresh from their 2-1 home victory over in-form Hearts of Oak, which saw them cut the lead at the top to just one, Gold Stars will travel to the Bono Region, precisely the Wenchi Sports Complex, to test their mettle against relegation candidate, Young Apostles.

Gold Stars are on a four-game winning streak, having blown apart Swedru All Blacks, Basake Holy Stars, Heart of Lions and Hearts of Oak, and are gunning to add Apostles to their list of casualties tomorrow.

Apostles, the last but one team on the log, have vowed to escape the drop, indicating their resolve to wrest a point or more in the game.

Medeama SC returns to their fortress, the TnA Stadium, to host Hohoe United in a tricky tie.

Head coach of Medeama SC, Tanko Ibrahim, believes they are still on course to win the title despite the threat from Gold Stars.

Vision FC will look to continue their strong home form when they welcome relegation-threatened Berekum Chelsea to the Nii Adjei Kraku Sports Complex in Tema New Town today with the Nsenkyire Sports Arena in Samreboi, also hosting the Samartex FC versus Dreams FC clash today.
