A pressure group, Arise Ghana, today hit the streets of Accra to express displeasure over the worsening economic conditions in the country.
In order to have a peaceful demonstration, the Ghana Police Service deployed two mobile Police hospital units to assist the demonstrators and officers who might need medical attention during the protest.
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr George Akuffo Dampare, urged the officers deployed for the exercise to treat the protesters with respect and dignity.
But a standoff between the Police and some protestors led to the firing of tear gas and rubber bullets.
Sources say about three protestors were also arrested.
Below are photos and videos from the scene:

Sista Afia questions why contractors destroy all lanes during road construction

Ghanaian musician Sista Afia has raised concerns over how road construction is done in Ghana.
The singer took to social media to pose what she described as a genuine question to contractors, especially those working on roads.
She questioned why it appears that when a road is being worked on, all lanes are destroyed at once, leaving motorists with no usable lane, instead of working on one lane at a time.
Sista Afia wrote, “Contractors, I have a genuine question for you, especially those working on roads in Ghana. Why is it that whenever a road is being worked on, it sometimes feels like all the lanes have to be destroyed at once before we get even one lane to use? If it’s a three-lane road, wouldn’t it make more sense to work on one lane at a time, while leaving the others open for motorists to use?.”
The “Asuoden” hitmaker admitted she is not a contractor and there might be technical reasons for the approach, but noted that from a road user’s perspective, completely blocking or damaging all lanes at once creates heavy traffic and inconvenience.
“I’m not a contractor, so maybe there’s a technical reason why things are done this way that I don’t understand. But from a road user’s perspective, completely blocking or damaging all the lanes at once creates so much traffic and inconvenience. Wouldn’t working on one lane at a time, where possible, allow construction to continue while still giving people a usable road? Maybe there’s something I’m missing. Contractors, please educate me,” she added.
Her post has since sparked conversations online, with many road users agreeing with her while others attempt to explain the engineering process behind such construction methods.

Thousands of worshippers attend Women in Worship at 10

10th anniversary edition held at the University of Ghana Sports Complex on Sunday, September 27
More than ten thousand worshippers attended the 10th anniversary edition of Women in Worship at the University of Ghana Sports Complex on Sunday, September 27.
The event was held under the theme “A Decade of Grace, Offering Our Thanksgiving,” marking a decade of the annual worship gathering.
The anniversary programme featured the “10 for 10” lineup of 10 female gospel ministers: Empress Gifty, Piesie Esther, Celestine Donkor, Naomi Raine, Judikay, Sarah Appiah, Sandra Boakye Duah, Akua Serwaa Bonsu, the Tagoe Sisters and many more.

The ministers led attendees through praise, worship, prayer and thanksgiving during the programme. Performances ranged from energetic praise sessions to reflective worship moments.

The event was held free of charge, a decision that organisers said helped make the anniversary gathering accessible to worshippers from different backgrounds.
The 10th anniversary edition brought together thousands of attendees to mark the event’s decade long run and reflect on its role in worship and ministry.
Women In Worship is a flagship event of Genet Services an event logistics hub and it was sponsored by Consolidated Bank of Ghana, Malta Guinness, Nasco Electronics, Echo Wave, Celebrity Studios, GBFoods and Kaila Event.
