Interior Minister, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak has paid visits to the Northern Regional Police Headquarters and the Tamale Central Prison as part of his tour of the Northern Region.
The Minister’s visit aimed to boost the morale of security personnel and understand the challenges faced by inmates in theΒ region.
During his visit to the Regional Police Headquarters, the Minister commended the officers for their dedication to maintaining peace and security in the region.
He engaged in discussions about ongoing efforts to strengthen community policing and address local security challenges.
The Minister also assured the officers of Governmentβs commitment to providing resources and training to enhance their operational effectiveness.
At Tamale Central Prison, Hon. Muntaka met with inmates and officers, emphasising the need for various agricultural and industrial projects to improve the feeding conditions of inmates as well as skills acquisition for the inmates.
He listened to concerns raised by inmates and discussed initiatives aimed at improving prison conditions and supporting post-release opportunities.
The Minister reiterated Governmentβs focus on humane treatment and reformation within the correctional system, as well as various challenges faced by the Ghana Prisons Service, including overcrowding and inadequate resources.
Parliament has confirmed that the Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North, Kwame Ohene Frimpong, has been detained at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
In a statement signed by the Clerk to Parliament, Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, Parliament said the incident had been brought to the attention of the House leadership.
According to the statement, the Speaker of Parliament and the leadership of the House are currently in contact with Ghanaβs Mission in The Hague to gather detailed information about the matter.
Parliament, however, did not disclose the reasons behind the MPβs detention.
βThe public will be duly informed appropriately on this matter,β the statement added.

President John Dramani Mahama has approved the immediate evacuation of 300 Ghanaians living in South Africa following renewed xenophobic attacks in the country.
According to a statement, the affected Ghanaians had earlier complied with an advisory issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and registered with Ghanaβs High Commission in Pretoria for evacuation.
The government said the evacuation exercise is aimed at ensuring the safety and welfare of the citizens affected by the attacks.
The statement described the Ghanaians as distressed persons who sought assistance after tensions and attacks against foreign nationals reportedly escalated in parts of South Africa.
Government assured citizens that it remains committed to protecting the welfare of Ghanaians both at home and abroad.
Authorities are expected to work with Ghanaβs diplomatic mission in South Africa to facilitate the safe return of the evacuees to Ghana.
