Despite winning their 8th title in the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ), Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School (PRESEC) is already preparing to retain the title, according to Headmaster David Odjidja.
“We take it as a project,” Odjidja told Bernard Avle on the Citi Breakfast Show. “Last year when we came with the 7th trophy, there were jubilations all over. But the next day, the boys started working towards this trophy. It took less than 24 hours for them to go back to start work.”
Odjidja explained that the contestants undergo nerve-wracking training for two years in order to prepare for the competition. “The boys were selected in Form 1, two years ago. They have been working throughout vacations.”
The Headmaster of PRESEC emphasized the importance of the trophy to the school’s 85th anniversary. “This trophy is badly needed for the celebration,” he said.

Odjidja also revealed that the students were feeling anxious when Achimota School was whipping them in round 4 with the True/False question segment.
“It was quite a terrible experience, especially when you are sitting right in the hall,” he said. “But the comfort was before the start of round 4, we had a great gap, and we were still counting our hopes on the final round. Fortunately, we thank God Achimota School didn’t close the entire gap. We knew we could still trust God, but it wasn’t easy at all.”
Odjidja expressed appreciation to the parents of the contestants for allowing their wards to be part of the NSMQ competition. “I want to thank all the parents of these boys, they have all done well. I want to also thank all stakeholders for supporting and associating with us.”
PRESEC secured 40 points at the end of the competition, while second-placed Achimota School scored 28 points. Third-placed Opoku Ware School had 23 points.
PRESEC was awarded GH¢70,000, with Achimota School receiving GH¢50,000, and Opoku Ware receiving GH¢35,000.
The school is the only one to have won the title two consecutive times and holds the record with eight victories.

Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has announced that the government has accepted the recommendation to abolish the death penalty and replace it with life imprisonment as part of the constitutional review process.
He said the proposed amendment would affect Articles 3, 13, 19 and 72 of the 1992 Constitution, with offences that previously attracted the death penalty instead carrying life imprisonment.
Dr. Ayine made the announcement on July 30, 2026, at the Jubilee House in Accra during the Government Accountability Series while outlining the government’s position on the final recommendations of the Constitution Review Committee.
According to him, the government believes the death penalty is inconsistent with the constitutional right to life and Ghana’s international human rights obligations.
He explained that the recommendation forms part of broader proposals aimed at strengthening the protection of fundamental human rights under the Constitution.
Dr. Ayine said the government had also accepted the spirit of several recommendations to expand rights relating to women, children, persons with disabilities, older persons and the youth.
He added that a comprehensive Human Rights Act would be introduced to protect these rights and provide detailed enforcement mechanisms instead of amending the entrenched provisions of the Constitution through a national referendum.

Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has called on both local and international investors to tap into opportunities in Ghana’s tourism, hospitality and creative industries.
Speaking in an interview yesterday with World Media USA Today, the Minister said government is committed to creating a conducive investment environment to support growth in the sector.
She highlighted key investment areas including hotels, fashion, music, film production, and tourism infrastructure.
Dzifa Gomashie also encouraged Ghanaians to invest in domestic tourism to help boost the local economy.
According to her, strategic investment in tourism and the creative economy will drive economic transformation, create jobs, and position Ghana as Africa’s gateway for heritage, culture, business and investment.
“Ghana has vast opportunities across tourism, hospitality and the creative industries. We are ready and open for business,” she stated.
The Minister’s remarks come as government intensifies efforts to leverage culture and tourism as drivers of economic growth and job creation.
