Penkwasi SDA District presents sanitation materials to basic schools

THE Penkwasi District of the Seventh Day Adventist Church (MWGC) has donated sanitation materials worth GH¢20,000 to three basic schools in the Sunyani Municipality to improve hygiene and waste management.

The beneficiaries were Sunyani Municipal Assembly Basic School, High Street Basic School, and Penkwasi Adventist Preparatory School. Each school received washing basins, dustbins, dustpans, washing soap, and other sanitation essentials.

Speaking at a brief ceremony in Sunyani, Pastor Maxwell Obour Boateng Awuah, President of the MWGC, said the donation formed part of activities marking the 40th Anniversary of the conference. He emphasized the church’s commitment to improving hygiene and promoting healthy school environments.

Pastor Atta Boakye, the District Pastor, added that the church planned more community-focused activities that directly benefit residents, aligning with the church’s broader mission of service and outreach.

Elder Dr. Samuel Adu-Gyamfi, Chairman of the District Planning Committee, commended the church for their dedication and active participation in the celebration.

Headteachers of the beneficiary schools expressed gratitude, noting that the materials would significantly enhance waste management, sanitation, and hygiene standards in their schools.

Pastor Edward Opoku, Director of Education at the North Central Ghana Union Mission of the SDA, also attended the event.

Two arrested over robbery attack on Berekum Chelsea team

The Police have arrested two suspects, including the alleged gang leader, in connection with the robbery attack on the Berekum Chelsea football team that resulted in the death of one of the players.

According to a Police update, the arrests were made after intelligence-led operations by security personnel.

One of the suspects sustained gunshot wounds during an exchange of fire with the police.

He has since been taken to a hospital where he is receiving medical treatment, while the other suspect remains in police custody assisting with investigations.

The Police indicated that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the gang linked to the attack.

They assured the public that more details will be provided as investigations progress.

Mahama arrives in Brazzaville for Congo president’s investiture

President John Dramani Mahama has arrived in Brazzaville to attend the investiture ceremony of Denis Sassou N’Guesso.

The ceremony follows the re-election of President Sassou N’Guesso for another five year term as leader of the Republic of the Congo.

President Mahama travelled to Brazzaville shortly after launching his Free Primary Healthcare Programme in Dodowa.

He is expected to return to Accra after the ceremony scheduled for Thursday morning.
