President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, at the inauguration of the Law House delivered a powerful speech underscoring the paramount importance of law enforcement and the rule of law, especially in the context of the upcoming critical election year.
“In so saying, I want to use the opportunity of this platform to reassure the Ghanaian people that the law enforcement agencies of the state, including the Office of the Attorney-General, will do all within their power to ensure that law and order prevail in the country at all times, especially during this critical election year,” President Akufo-Addo asserted.
He emphasised that the ambitions of any political party or presidential candidate would not be allowed to compromise the nation’s hard-earned peace, security, and stability.
“It will not happen,” he declared emphatically.
Highlighting the nation’s robust legal framework, the President made it clear that laws on vigilantism and other relevant statutes would be rigorously enforced to safeguard the tranquillity of the country.
This unwavering commitment, he noted, was owed to the good people of Ghana, who have consistently demonstrated their deep attachment to peaceful democratic values.
The President also reflected on the significance of the Law House’s commissioning.
“Ladies and Gentlemen, the commissioning of the Law House is not just a celebration of a new building; it is a celebration of our collective commitment to the rule of law and justice. It is proof of our belief that a strong legal system is essential for the development and prosperity of our nation,” he said.
Looking to the future, President Akufo-Addo called for continuous adaptation and evolution of the legal system to meet the changing needs of society while maintaining a steadfast commitment to justice, fairness, and equality for all.
“The rule of law is not a static concept. It is a living principle that requires constant nurturing and vigilance,” he reminded the audience.
The President’s address resonated with a strong message of maintaining peace, security, and stability in Ghana, a nation renowned as a beacon of democracy on the African continent.
The inauguration of the edifice not only celebrated the new infrastructure but also reinforced Ghana’s dedication to the principles of justice and the rule of law, ensuring that peace and democratic values remain at the core of the nation’s development.
Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has announced that the government has accepted the recommendation to abolish the death penalty and replace it with life imprisonment as part of the constitutional review process.
He said the proposed amendment would affect Articles 3, 13, 19 and 72 of the 1992 Constitution, with offences that previously attracted the death penalty instead carrying life imprisonment.
Dr. Ayine made the announcement on July 30, 2026, at the Jubilee House in Accra during the Government Accountability Series while outlining the government’s position on the final recommendations of the Constitution Review Committee.
According to him, the government believes the death penalty is inconsistent with the constitutional right to life and Ghana’s international human rights obligations.
He explained that the recommendation forms part of broader proposals aimed at strengthening the protection of fundamental human rights under the Constitution.
Dr. Ayine said the government had also accepted the spirit of several recommendations to expand rights relating to women, children, persons with disabilities, older persons and the youth.
He added that a comprehensive Human Rights Act would be introduced to protect these rights and provide detailed enforcement mechanisms instead of amending the entrenched provisions of the Constitution through a national referendum.

Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has called on both local and international investors to tap into opportunities in Ghana’s tourism, hospitality and creative industries.
Speaking in an interview yesterday with World Media USA Today, the Minister said government is committed to creating a conducive investment environment to support growth in the sector.
She highlighted key investment areas including hotels, fashion, music, film production, and tourism infrastructure.
Dzifa Gomashie also encouraged Ghanaians to invest in domestic tourism to help boost the local economy.
According to her, strategic investment in tourism and the creative economy will drive economic transformation, create jobs, and position Ghana as Africa’s gateway for heritage, culture, business and investment.
“Ghana has vast opportunities across tourism, hospitality and the creative industries. We are ready and open for business,” she stated.
The Minister’s remarks come as government intensifies efforts to leverage culture and tourism as drivers of economic growth and job creation.
