My past addiction story inspired “Break Loose” – Essuman
New Gospel music sensation, Erasmus Ebo Essuman Aidoo, known in music circles as Essuman, has revealed that his maiden single, “Break Loose” was inspired by his past addiction story.
According to him, God motivated him to use his past experiences to inspire others who are in similar situations, not to lose hope.
Speaking to The Spectator, he said, “God saved me from waywardness, and addiction to alcohol and sex, and inspired me to write this song so that people in the same situation can be saved. Also, my dear wife, Patience played a vital role,” he noted.
Touching on the message “Break Loose”, Essuman said it preached the story of how one could be saved and live a life of freedom in Christ Jesus by the power of the Holy Ghost.
“There is freedom in Christ Jesus for the addicts, the sick, the afflicted, people in bondage of unforgiveness, stagnation, depression among others,” he said.
Speaking on his journey, Essuman said, ‘It has not been easy but God has been faithful, I had a bad experience with the first studio I visited, but Fredibelle, and Nana Ama Hayford who I featured encouraged me and provided massive technical support,” he said.
Essuman is the founder and president of a Christian NGO called “I Smile Because You Care (ISBYC),” which feeds the needy and preaches the gospel of Jesus Christ.
As part of their activities, they embark on prison outreach, and have built mechanised boreholes, community water reservoir and water treatment plant for deprived communities, as well as supported deprived schools with reading materials, Bibles among others.
It is his desire to use gospel music to raise funds and build some networks to champion this noble agenda of touching lives.

MAAME TIWAA, the celebrated backing vocalist of legendary gospel group ‘Yaw Sarpong & Asomafo,’ has been reported dead after a short illness. The news of her demise broke in the early hours of Sunday, December 7, 2025.
For decades, Maame Tiwaa stood beside Yaw Sarpong as the soothing female voice of the group. She contributed to numerous gospel classics that continue to inspire believers across the country. Her vocals featured prominently on numerous gospel classics including ‘Wo Haw Ne Sen’, ‘Awurade Ka Me Ho’, ‘Yen Fa Oye Nkoaa’, and ‘Mensuro’. These songs became staples in Christian homes and churches across Ghana, with many believers drawing spiritual upliftment from her performances. Her voice helped establish the Asomafo sound as one of the most influential gospel collectives in the country.
Her last known performances was her tribute to Yaw Sarpong at this year’s TGMA night and at her son’s wedding. In recent months, Maame Tiwa had been actively caring for Yaw Sarpong during his health struggles.
