IGP Special Operations team and Upper East Regional Police Command conduct swoop operations
The Upper East Regional Police Command supported by the IGP’s Special Operations Team conducted an intelligence led swoop operation at Bolgatanga, Tongo, Bongo and Nabdam District from May 25, to June 3, 2026.
The team arrested twelve suspects comprising eight males and four females at Zuarungu.
The female suspects comprised three Nigerians and a Ghanaian. In Bongo, a total of thirty-four (34) suspects comprising thirty-two (32) males and two (2) females were arrested.
Subsequently, the operation at Perlungu, Kongo and Nangodi led to the arrest at fourteen (14) suspects comprising twelve males and two females in the Nabdam District. Twenty (20) suspects were also arrested in Bolgatanga.
Preliminary investigation indicates that the suspects were involved in narcotic peddling and consumption as well as other criminal related activities.
The team also retrieved a motorcycle, assorted foreign cigarette, male condoms and quantities of substances suspected to be Indian hemp in Tongo.
In Bongo, three rounds of 5.56×45mm NATO ammunition and two motorbikes were retrieved and in Nabdam, parcels and sacks containing dried leaves suspected to be Narcotic substances, assorted drinks suspected to contain narcotic content, one unregistered motorbike, assorted foreign cigarettes and pieces of casino jackpot machine were retrieved.
Suspects arrested in Bolgatanga were in possession of dried leaves substances suspected to be Indian hemp, assorted cigarette, a Yamaha black Sirius motorbike with registration no. M-19-UE 2688, black Luojia motorbike with registration no. M-13-UE 7181, an unregistered Haojue motorbike and a casino jackpot machine.
All suspects are in Police custody and will be put before court to face the full rigours of the law.

MomsConnectGH marks Mental Health Awareness Day and Mother’s Day with donation to Accra Psychiatric Hospital
As part of activities to commemorate Mental Health Awareness Day and Mother’s Day, MomsConnectGH last Saturday organised a donation drive to the Accra Psychiatric Hospital under its outreach initiative, The Hannah Project.
The initiative formed part of the organisation’s broader commitment to supporting vulnerable groups in society while creating awareness around mental health challenges, particularly those affecting women and mothers.
The donation included essential supplies and welfare items for patients at the hospital.
Speaking during the donation, Co-Partner of MomsConnectGH, Elizabeth Owusu-Boadi, said the initiative was inspired by the need to show compassion and support to people facing mental health challenges, especially women and mothers.
She noted that many women continue to struggle silently with mental health conditions such as postpartum depression.
“Postpartum depression is one of the mental health issues many women go through, yet it is not spoken about enough. Many mothers suffer in silence because of stigma, lack of awareness, and limited support systems,” she said.
Mrs Owusu-Boadi explained that the decision to visit the Accra Psychiatric Hospital was intentional and aimed at reminding patients that they are loved, valued, and not forgotten.
“We wanted to come here not just with donations, but with kindness, hope, and support for the patients and staff here,” she added.
She also called on the government, civil society organisations, and private institutions to increase support for psychiatric healthcare facilities across the country.
“Mental healthcare is just as important as physical healthcare. We all have a role to play in supporting mental health institutions and creating more awareness around these issues,” she stated.
Head of Public Relations at the Accra Psychiatric Hospital, Dr Peggy Asiedu Ekremet, thanked MomsConnectGH for the gesture and encouraged the public to pay more attention to mental health.
“Mental health issues can affect anyone. Seeking help is a sign of strength and not weakness. We encourage people to speak up and seek professional support when they need it,” she said.
MomsConnectGH said The Hannah Project forms part of its broader mission to build a supportive community for mothers while impacting lives positively through outreach and wellness initiatives.
The group also expressed appreciation to all individuals, partners, and organisations who contributed to the success of the donation exercise.
President John Dramani Mahama has begun a state visit to the Republic of Belarus aimed at strengthening diplomatic relations and expanding cooperation between the two countries.
The visit, which started on Friday, June 5, is at the invitation of Belarusian President Aleksandr Grigorievich Lukashenko.
According to a statement issued by presidential spokesperson and Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the visit will focus on deepening ties in key sectors, including agriculture, education, commerce, and technical cooperation.
As part of his itinerary, President John Dramani Mahama is expected to lay a wreath at the Victory Monument in Minsk to honour Soviet Army soldiers and Belarusian partisans who fought during World War II.
The statement said a major highlight of the trip will be bilateral talks between President Mahama and President Lukashenko.
The two leaders are expected to hold private discussions before meeting with ministers and senior officials from both countries to explore opportunities for partnership.
President Mahama will also travel to the city of Brest, where he will visit one of the region’s largest processors of milk, cheese, and baby food products.
The Presidency said the visit is expected to promote knowledge sharing and create opportunities for collaboration in agro-processing.
While in Brest, he will pay his respects at the Brest Hero Fortress Memorial Complex, a memorial dedicated to Soviet defenders who resisted Nazi forces in 1941.
The President is scheduled to visit Belovezhskaya Pushcha National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known as one of Europe’s last remaining primeval forests.
The visit is expected to highlight the importance both countries place on environmental conservation.
According to the statement, Ghana and Belarus are expected to sign at least four bilateral agreements during the visit. The agreements are intended to promote economic growth and strengthen institutional cooperation between the two nations.
President Mahama is expected to conclude the visit and return to Accra on Tuesday, June 9.
