The Adenta Circuit Court has today granted bail to Techiman-based Senior Nursing Officer Salomey Bafoh-Awiti in the sum of GH¢100,000 with two sureties.
The court ordered that both sureties must be civil servants earning a minimum of GH¢3,000 each.
“They are waiting for us to meet the bail processes. We are confident that we will meet the bail conditions,” her lawyer, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, said after the ruling.
The bail comes after more than three weeks in custody.
Ms. Bafoh Awiti, 40, a mother of three from Hansua in the Techiman Municipality, was arrested at her home around 11:30pm on September 13, 2026.
Police allege she acted as a liaison for UK-based TikTok personality Barbara Asantewaa Kodua, known as “Ghana Jollof”, whose account is under investigation for publishing false news and inciting comments.
Prosecutors allege Bafoh assisted in disseminating videos produced by Ghana Jollof and recruited others to redistribute them on social media.
She has been charged with abetment of crime, to wit, publication of false news, contrary to sections 20(1) and 208 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), and has pleaded not guilty.
She was initially remanded by the Adentan Circuit Court and later denied bail by the Accra High Court on September 24, which cited ongoing cyber-related investigations and fears of interference with evidence.
Her continued detention sparked protests, with former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association, and women’s groups calling for her release, describing the midnight arrest as worrying for free speech.
UK-based Barbara Kodua has since been declared wanted by police.

Ghana warns citizens over fake jobs and forced cybercrime in Zambia

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has warned Ghanaians seeking employment in Zambia to be cautious of fraudulent job offers that could expose them to human trafficking and forced involvement in cybercrime.
The warning follows the arrest of six Ghanaians in Lusaka, Zambia, during a joint operation by the Zambia Police Service, the Drug Enforcement Commission and the Department of Immigration on August 23, 2026.
According to the Ministry, the operation targeted a facility suspected of being involved in organised cybercrime activities and led to the arrest of 79 people, including 10 Zambians and 69 foreign nationals.
The Ministry said six of the foreign nationals arrested were Ghanaians.
It explained that reports received by the Ghana High Commission in Lusaka indicated that some of those arrested had been recruited through what appeared to be legitimate employment opportunities, including online data entry jobs.
However, the Ministry said some were allegedly forced into online scam activities after their passports were confiscated by their employers.
It warned that the situation highlights how human trafficking groups are using fake employment opportunities to lure unsuspecting job seekers into illegal activities.
The Ministry has therefore advised Ghanaians travelling to Zambia or seeking employment there to thoroughly verify job offers, recruitment agencies and prospective employers before travelling.
Ghanaians living in Zambia have also been urged to remain vigilant when responding to online job opportunities and maintain regular contact with the Ghana High Commission in Lusaka for consular assistance when necessary.
The Ministry said the government remains committed to protecting the welfare and interests of Ghanaians travelling to or living outside the country.
