The Diaspora Affairs Office at the Office of the President, in partnership with the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), has presented Ghana’s official charity auction gift to Miss Ghana 2026, Rumzia Sule, as she prepares to represent the nation at the 75th Miss World Festival in Vietnam later this month.
The presentation took place during a brief ceremony at the Diaspora Affairs Office at the Office of the President and formed part of Ghana’s official send-off for the reigning queen ahead of her departure.
The symbolic gift, inspired by Ghana’s iconic Independence Arch, has been designated for the Miss World Charity Auction; one of the festival’s longest-standing traditions.
During the event, each participating country presents a distinctive item representing its culture, heritage and national identity, with all proceeds supporting the global charitable initiatives of the Miss World Organisation.
Presenting the gift, the Director of Diaspora Affairs at the Office of the President, Kofi Okyere Darko (KOD), congratulated Rumzia Sule and the Miss Ghana runners-up on their achievements and encouraged the reigning queen to proudly represent Ghana on the international stage.
“You are carrying the hopes and pride of an entire nation. Just as our national teams have represented Ghana on the world stage, go out there with confidence and let the world experience the very best of Ghana. Make us proud.”

He further reaffirmed the commitment of the Diaspora Affairs Office to partnering with the Miss Ghana brand in strengthening engagement with Ghanaians living abroad and promoting Ghana’s positive image globally.
Also addressing the gathering, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Gilbert Aggrey, popularly known as Abeiku Santana, described the gift as a powerful symbol of Ghana’s history and identity.
He explained that the Independence Arch represents Ghana’s historic position as the first country in Sub-Saharan Africa to attain independence and serves as an enduring symbol of freedom, resilience and African leadership.
“Ghana is the Gateway to Africa. We are presenting a symbolic heritage gift that tells our story to the world. Go and shine with the pride of Africa, the Black Star of the world, and let everyone know where you come from.”
He assured the delegation of the Ghana Tourism Authority’s continued support in promoting Ghana through the Miss World platform.
The Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the National Film Authority, James Gardiner, also encouraged the queen to remain confident throughout the competition.
“Believe in what you carry. You represent not only Ghana but the pride of Africa. Never allow yourself to be intimidated; your authenticity, confidence and purpose are your greatest strengths.”
Receiving the gift on behalf of Ghana, Miss Ghana 2026, Rumzia Sule, expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Government of Ghana and its partners for the honour and support.
“I am deeply humbled by this gesture and grateful for the confidence that has been placed in me. I will carry Ghana with pride, honour our culture and traditions, and do my utmost to make every Ghanaian proud on the Miss World stage.”
The Managing Director Exclusive Events Ghana and the Chair of the Miss Ghana Foundation, Inna Patty, Esq., expressed profound appreciation to the Office of the President, the Ghana Tourism Authority and all partners for their unwavering support.
She noted that Ghana’s participation at the 75th Miss World Festival extends beyond beauty, serving as a platform to showcase the country’s culture, tourism, creativity and national heritage while advancing charitable causes around the world.
“We are sincerely grateful to the Diaspora Affairs Office and the Ghana Tourism Authority for this meaningful gesture and for presenting Ghana’s official gift for the Miss World Charity Auction.” she said.
According to her, ” This gift will not only showcase the richness of our cultural heritage before a global audience, but will also contribute to raising funds for the Miss World Organisation’s humanitarian projects across the world. It beautifully reflects Ghana’s generosity, compassion and commitment to using culture as a force for global good.”
“We deeply appreciate the Government of Ghana and all our partners for believing in the Miss Ghana vision. Every investment in our queens is an investment in youth empowerment, tourism promotion, cultural diplomacy and national development. Together, we are telling Ghana’s story on one of the world’s biggest stages while empowering young women to become ambassadors for positive change,” she concluded.
Rumzia Sule will depart for Vietnam in the coming days to join contestants from more than 100 countries and territories at the historic 75th Miss World Festival, where she will represent Ghana in one of the world’s most prestigious international beauty and humanitarian events.

NPP needs Afoko to break NDC In 2028 — Political Scientist

Political Scientist Dr. Kwasi Amakye-Boateng has argued that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) faces a tougher task ahead of the 2028 elections because of what he described as improvements in Ghana’s economy under President John Dramani Mahama.
Speaking on Precise FM on Friday October 2, 2026, the Senior KNUST Lecturer said Mahama had performed creditably on inflation and the exchange rate, underscoring the need for strong opposition leadership to make the NPP attractive to Ghanaians through new national leaders.
He said the NPP’s attempts to attribute the economic improvement mainly to the government’s GoldBod policies did not fully answer why the party itself did not achieve similar results when it was in government.
Dr. Amakye-Boateng holds the view that the NPP has “extra work to do” if it wants to present a convincing alternative to voters in 2028, pointing to why Awentami Paul Afoko should be the best person to be elected as National Chairman.
Dr. Amakye-Boateng also linked that challenge to Mahamudu Bawumia’s record as Vice President under the Akufo-Addo administration.
According to him, Dr. Bawumia could face questions about any new economic proposals he presents during the next election cycle because he served in the previous government.
“
Bawumia’s integrity has been on the line because he participated in Akufo-Addo’s government,” he said.
He argued that if Bawumia campaigns on policies that differ from those implemented under the previous administration, voters could ask why he did not pursue those policies while in government.
“If Bawumia campaigns and tells the electorate about new policies he intends to bring, that would be compromised because people would ask him, ‘Why didn’t you do that when you were in the erstwhile NPP government?’” he said.
For Dr. Amakye-Boateng, the NPP’s response should begin with a change in its internal leadership and identity.
He said a new leadership structure could allow the party to distance itself from its previous record and present a fresh political message to voters.
“With a new identity starting with the election of Awentami Paul Afoko, then they would be on a new trajectory that would appeal to the masses,” he said.

Mahama visits Global Mercy Ship at Tema port, hails its humanitarian impact

President John Dramani Mahama has described the Global Mercy hospital ship as a “floating vessel of true mercy and humanism” after touring the world’s largest civilian hospital ship docked at the Tema Port.
In a post after his visit, President Mahama said he was deeply moved by his interactions with fellow Ghanaians undergoing life-changing treatments on board the ship, including children with orthopaedic conditions, many of whom had waited years to receive care.
The President welcomed the Mercy Ships team back to Ghana for their fifth mission since 1991.
“In a world where countries and individuals are increasingly focused on self-interest, Mercy Ships remains a floating vessel of true mercy and humanism,” Mahama stated.
He noted that the impact of Mercy Ships in Ghana is remarkable, adding that during its 10-month stay, the mission will continue to provide direct patient care while training local health workers alongside its international medical team.
Sharing a lighter moment from the tour, the President said as someone who had never sailed on a ship before, he expected to be walking like a sailor.
“I was pleasantly surprised by how steady and stable the ship is. It felt just like any modern hospital on land,” he said.
President Mahama expressed his gratitude to the dedicated medical crew, volunteers, donors, local partners, and friends of Mercy Ships, assuring them that this will not be their last mission to Ghana.
“My sincere gratitude to the dedicated medical crew, volunteers, donors, local partners, and friends of Mercy Ships. As I told them today, this is not the first time they have been here, and it will certainly not be the last.”
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to expanding access to quality healthcare for all Ghanaians, despite appreciating humanitarian support.
According to him, “While we appreciate humanitarian support, my administration remains firmly committed to expanding access to quality healthcare for all Ghanaians. We are expanding free primary health care, strengthening the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), investing in hospitals and health workers, and using the Ghana Medical Trust Fund to ease the burden of serious non-communicable diseases on families.”
“To the crew of the Global Mercy, Ghana says thank you,” Mahama added.
